RE: Lotus 2-Eleven: Spotted
Discussion
Was a great looking 2-11 Steph (and Rob), I loved speccing one off demonstrators back when they were new. Particularly liked the white/black/red I did and a JPS car for a German customer.
Fantastic cars and as somebody else mentioned they really do have a Can Am feel behind the wheel.

I loved mine. All 5yrs and 20,000 miles of it
It is in Germany now and converted to a left hooker. The new owner has been in touch a few times - seems like a nice bloke - hope he enjoys it as much as I did and then Rob did.
Part of me wishes I'd kept it - it was a fantastic car and it never missed a beat. The trouble is I wanted to go back to racing whilst I was still young enough to and couldn't afford both...It is in Germany now and converted to a left hooker. It's one of the sva road registered cars. It was raced early in its life (i use to race agasint it back in the day) then it has been a track toy to another couple of owners after that. All the previous owners have been based north of the English border so subsequently it has 47k on the clock from running up and down the country to and from trackdays/race meets. The original owner did Lotus Cup Europe in it for one year driving to every event from Aberdeen (these Scottish lads know how to get the most out of something...) It's been used and enjoyed.
To be fair, it came to me looking a wee bit grotty from its heavy use, however the actual chassis was straight and true as were all the pickup points on it. Everything mechanical has either been replace with new or if it was good enough to be reused was refurbed. I've done a slightly more detailed build thread on thelotusforums in the 2-11 section if you want to take a look there. It doesn't list all the new parts, but anyone interested I can get all that info.

It's not a full build thread of all the work that I've done or new parts put on it but has been regularly updated. See here -

Would love to know more about the improvements you're making along the way. I see a few comments about it on seloc, but can't find a build thread?
The only improvements I'm doing are in true Chapman spirit... simplify and add lightness! Its had a brand new brake system on it all the way through other than the pedal box itself, I'm using Alcon 2peice discs (295/288) which has saved an average of 2kg per corner of u/s weight.
Brand new Ohlins dampers (original 2-11 spec) but ive had them convert from 2-way to single way. Mainly for ease of use and longevity. The remote cannisters were positioned in extremely exposed locations and soon got st
up/lockup/lose their clicks... most people probably never play with them anyway so a set of single ways is much ease to mount, maintain and use... plus they're lighter.
The engine bay is quite cluttered with 'stuff', some of which is not actually needed. accusumps, intercooler, ducting, water pipes, breather pipes. You can't see much going on down below from the top!
I've removed the accusump and all the associated piping that goes along with it in favour of a large capacity baffled sump. The main water cooling system has been reduce to basically the main pipe runs in/out to the engine and the header tank feed. Gone is all the piping connecting to the throttle body for the cold start emissions heating system that isn't there... Likewise, the oil breather returns back to the tb have either been deleted entirely or routed to a separate catch tank so it's not burning it again by chucking it through the s/c and i/c .
Basically tidy up the engine bay as much as possible in order to be able to maintain it in easier fashion. With a bit of space around everything you can see when things are starting to go wrong and address them straight away, not after they've completely failed and messed everything else up with them!
Other than that the focus has been on all the steel brackets, mounts, rollcage etc, anything steel that was bolted to Ali making the sure it's all good for the next 47k and hopefully still be looking good at that point unlike how I found it...
It has been very interesting pulling one apart with relatively high miles and 10yrs old I must say. Belive it or not some of these cars have outside homes!! Again some of them may only have a few k on the clock but start pulling away the body work could look like they have 50k!
