Hyundai i30N - 3 and a half
Discussion
Interesting read this thread.....
I test drove an I30N performance yesterday having read a variety of positive reviews, personally I was really impressed with the handling and car overall including comfort when in the normal 'mode', great engine comfortable but supportive seats and great feel to all the controls + looks subtle and the 5 yr warranty that covers track days gives much confidence.
Have driven a Type R (prev model) which was ruled out on the cost and pretty poor interior, WRX STI for doing 20,000 miles a year to hard and terrible on fuel and a GTI Mk7 which just felt heavy and not all together that special for the money. Above in my opinion of course.
The pcp numbers have come back very well today on the i30N given my miles p/a and and in all likenesses will order the car tomorrow.
If it all goes ahead I will endeavor to do a thread in readers cars to record how I get on!
Thanks

Looks like this car is getting a lot of good reviews. Loads of positivity about it.
I think pretty much any new hot hatch that someone buys at the moment is probably a very good one. So much choice out there and all very good, something for almost everyone.
D200 seems to be the Humandoing of the Kia/Hyundai World.

So you're saying D200 is in fact a North Korean agent, tasked with tarnishing the South Korean motor industry? I think pretty much any new hot hatch that someone buys at the moment is probably a very good one. So much choice out there and all very good, something for almost everyone.

I'd be fascinated to see some figures, or even just an "it's cheaper than/more expensive than a Golf GTi" because this is where i thought they were most likely to fall down. Aids0G said:

Didn't know that about the insurance; very cool. Will that cover modifications though? I'm thinking not...
Conversely, driving an unknown car for the first time for 15 - 30 minutes, mostly in town in traffic with none of your own settings (even seat and mirror adjustments) does not give a realistic impression of the day to day experience. Difficult to compare with others unless you can get back to back tests which is very difficult. I'm happy to let an experienced journalist give me a head start in the selection game.

Be interesting to see the figures. . I'm supposed to be going to test drive the performance pack one soon to compare to my Cupra 420. Thanks

Well currently at 2k down for 36 months 20,000 m a year we are at £440 and hoping they will drop to £400pcm, will find out by the end of the day. The GTiI was a little cheaper think around £380 from memory under the same profile.
Hope this helps.
Wow, that's pretty pricey! It's as expected really and can't really compete with it's competitors on the old never-never.Hope this helps.
Seat Leon Cupra 300 from Seat Warrington is 1+23 profile, 8k per annum, personal lease, £269 pm with the same amount for the initial payment.
That's an absolute steal in comparison.

The thing with any review is that it's one man's opinion in one moment of time. I reserve judgement of how a car feels until I've actually driven it. I'd hate to live my life influenced or dictated by others' opinions.
If there's one thing I've learned as I've got older, it's this. It's nice to think other people share your opinion of whether something is good or not, but in the end, it only matters to YOU. Who cares what anyone else thinks? I quite often get asked my opinion about lots of things, and I will only answer with facts and a declaration that it's only what they think of it at the end of the day that really matters.
You can look up any product in just about any category and find good and bad reviews. There's just no substitute for keeping an open mind, and finding things out for yourself. I've still not figured out what makes people so rabidly argumentative about products / brands. Look at the old iPhone v Android argument for starters, I just find it incredibly sad that someone could get so upset about someone daring to prefer something else.
I don't know much about this car, but on the face of it, it seems like one of Hyundai's best ever cars to me, and although I am unlikely to be in the market for anything like this anytime soon, I am absolutely in favour of competition.
The I30 N is a great little car.
Clarkson raved about it in the Sunday Times over the weekend.

But the lease and PCP deals are very expensive. And not to mention the social shame of the Hyundai badge.

What’s the surcharge on that for 12k miles per year over the allowance? Seat Leon Cupra 300 from Seat Warrington is 1+23 profile, 8k per annum, personal lease, £269 pm with the same amount for the initial payment.
