Having gone through a few sporty cars, mostly Lotus, I’ve found myself enjoying the relative comfort of an F-Type without contorting myself to get in and out.

This seems to be the sign for people to keep telling me it’s ‘an old mans car’ (I’m not 50 for a few years) - it doesn’t bother me at all - I’m called far worse.
A 70 year old neighbour said it to me yesterday in jest, and she drives a diesel A3.

Even the young lad who runs the local chippy and drives a Volvo estate said it to me laugh

Not sure where this tag came from, a bit like cabriolets being ‘hairdresser’ cars or 911’s being mid-life crisis...

Certainly, I see some older generations driving Jags, as I do just about every other marque...
But on the flip side, I see mostly young(er) people with young families in the likes of the F-Pace.

Who gives a ****?

I'm 55 in April and will hopefully be purchasing fun and comfortable. If people either think I'm going through a midlife crisis or getting old I really couldn't care less.

Enjoy what makes you happy - you're not here for ever!

35 here and I've had my Jaaaggg for the last 2 and half years.

I think the new XE and F pace have certainly helped lower the average age of Jag drivers

It’s just a blow from the 80’s when you had to be Arthur daily to own a jag,
I had my first jag at 20, series 3 xj12
I’m 42 now and don’t currently have one frown
But I do watch minder on itv 4 as I’ve always enjoyed it along with the Sweeney and the professionals drink

Ignore the comments. I love the f type, I am 42. Personally I think 911 owners also tend to be old. I rarely see anybody under 60 driving one, that didn't stop me nearly buying a 911 turbo 3 years ago - somebody beat me to it and I couldn't find another similar spec with such low mileage.

I was looking at S Type R's a while back and the view I was getting was it was classed as an old mans car.

Guess it is a tag they have struggled to shift

I had one of those a few years back when I was in my mid-30's. It was a great car, like being in an armchair strapped to a rocket. It was de-badged by the previous owner which was a laugh when someone pulled up alongside at the lights in their BMW/Audi rep-mobile.

Couldn't give a monkey's what anyone thought!!

Not at all! I’m 23 and I’d love to own a X300 XJ6/XJR. What I grew up with, the latest XF/XE models are stunning cars also.

I’m mid-30s, and yes, for me it has an image that is proving hard to shake off. The amount of incredibly plain looking XEs that I see is hardly helping, and I find the styling of the XJ and E-Pace very awkward.

This is why I don't speak to people in real life. Buy what you want, enjoy what you like.

Stems from the 80s when Jaguar only had two ageing cars to sell and an image like Arthur. Continued into the 90s with Fords I’ll advised retro pastiche era just extending the same look. Things have really turned around under TATA and the average age is dropping massively.

The fact you’ve had comments along those lines says for me how far removed posters on PH are from the rest of the populace.

Post on here that you have a white 220e class and you are a low life who drives a rented base diesel.

To most you are in an AMG Merc and doing exceptionally well for yourself.

On here drive an FType you are a driving god who appreciates the alternative to a Cayman, the public see you as having a mid life crisis in your old mans car.

Came very close to buying an XK five or six or years ago. Still think they are one of the nicest-looking cars out there. Such beautiful lines.

The F-Type too is a fabulous looker, and certainly has a contemporary appearance, not one from a bygone-era at all.

The huge investment of cash from Tata since they took over ownership has been fantastic for Jaguar.

In my early twenties I owned a 1976 XJ6. It was splendid and proved to be a lot more popular than the stupid fwd hatches that my friends were screaming around in.

Well, it's an expensive car so I'm not sure what you expect. So either it's being driven by an old man (or woman), or a young one who's inherited/won the lotto/in some extremely suspicious line of business. I don't see many of the latter in jags, so by elimination, you're likely the former.

That said, what E34-3.2 said.
