First in a series of astonishing facts.... might not get very far or it might be an octo-volume thread.

So here goes...

John Tyler, America’s tenth president, was born in 1790. He has two living grandchildren.

Yes, grandchildren.

1. John Tyler was 63 when his son Lyon was born (1853).

2. Lyon was 71 when Lyon Jr. was born (1924), and 75 when Harrison was born (1928).

3. Both sons are still alive.

Americans don't have kettles, certainly not electric ones anyhow. They also don't have instant coffee or drink tea.

  • In general.

TsutomuYamaguchi was in Hiroshima on a business trip for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on August 6, 1945, when a U.S. B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on the city.

He suffered serious burns to his upper body as well as temporary blindness and spent the night in the city.

He then returned to his hometown of Nagasaki, about 190 miles to the southwest, which suffered a second U.S. atomic bomb attack just three days later.

He died in 2010, aged 93.

Regarding kettles, it is a fact. Surprised me as well! Must be to do with the voltage.

I'm afraid it isn't a fact. My American friends (in America) have a US made electric kettle.

Well, it is a fact that the vast majority of UK households have an electric kettle, whereas the vast majority of US households do not. You know what I meant. smile

Yes i'm currently waiting for the pan on the hob to boil. This morning it boiled over when I turned my back, what kind of backward society is this? It probably includes Canada and certainly Mexico too, big business opportunity for someone there I think....

Which won't be a surprise.

It'll tell you - via two second Google search - that reaming out an octogenerian's hoop is perfectly normal and acceptable.

You'll be fine, MBH............

I can verify this - very few to chose from and the 110v electricity means it takes twice as long to boil! Always make sure the absolute minimum water needed is used.

In Flogsta, Sweden, at 10pm every night if you open your window and scream outside, you'll be met with dozens of screams from the local residents.
