Why wouldn't this new car be repaired?

The shark fin antenna has been forcibly removed leaving a hole in the roof where it once resided?
Perhaps such a feature should be designed to break away without causing damage to the roof - maybe in two pieces, one of which remains and can have a replacement attached to it.OldGermanHeaps said:
I had a story told to me by a vauxhall dealer tech that the first load of zafiras transported by rail were written off because of electrical damage due to the aerials being taller than an astra and the overhead train power cables arced to them, and that on subsequent loads they removed the aerials. Not sure if it was true or not but perhaps something similar here, lightning damage or the aerial came into contact with a busbar.
That must have looked epic from bystanders point of view.Decky_Q said:
The tailgate is closed but the tailgate open light is lit on the dash.
On the first one? I think that just means it set to automatically close as you walk away from the car.The second car linked to is even more incredible - it looks hardly more than scrape.
Is scrapping them a recent thing? We had a new Peugeot once that had had the bonnet replaced. It only became apparent as its red paint faded at a different rate to the rest of the car.

Why is that then?
Put any heat into it and it will warp irreparably so hot work is out of the question. It’s possible to make good with filler etc but you’ll never know if the panel is properly smooth until it’s been through paint so no volume repair shop will attempt it. You could windscreen glue a patch from the inside then fill and paint but most would understandably call this a bodge. MitchT said:

Quite often they would have roof damage from trees as the route to the dealer I worked for at the time was laden with trees, as long as you picked up the damage when checking them in and marked it on the relevant document
The transporter company picked up the bill, and they went away for repair,
I think the worst I came across was a v class ambiente that had been squished at the back and got re shelled,

Are these sold with zero on going warranty from the manufacturer?
I wondered that, what if the dsg failed at 3 months, just because it’s had the aerial replaced why would it not be covered, surely these won’t be registered, how can you register them away from the dealer network?jonwm said:

Hopefully someone knowledgeable will be along with an answer. I can only think it wouldn't have any manufacturer warranty, because it would have to come with so many disclaimers, given the work required to put it right. But then, I'd expect the price to be much much lower, given the bork factor you mention above! Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
