Hi there,
Wheels are of course a personal taste thing, however i'm just wondering what options the car came with from the factory. I've seen plenty of pics with the dished OZ Polished 8 Spokes and the optional OZ Split Rims, however lots of cars/pics seen running the 5 Spoke Chimaera Wheels, were these an option or is it just an easy swap/upgrade?
OZ Splits look mega. What's the going rate for a set these days and do they come up for sale often?

Here's three styles to get you thinking...
The ones nearest the camera are not OZ splits but similar.
A mate of mine had a set. PM me if you're interested and I'll ask him if he still has them.

Say around £1,000+ for a fully refurbished ready to go set. A mate of mine had a set. PM me if you're interested and I'll ask him if he still has them.
The 'Chimaera 4 liter front' style Imola 5-spoke 15" rims seem to have been widely used towards the end of V8S production (K and L registration years). Perhaps they ran out of the original wheels and made up the numbers from the Chimaera parts supply. Those split rims look gorgeous, but I don't envy the owners keeping them clean.
Great triple S pic.
Seems logical on the Chimaera Wheels I suppose and they are a nice easy wheel to take care of.
16"/15" Staggered OZ Splits look the business. I think as a weekend and summer cruiser then cleaning shouldn't be too bad. I have splits on one of my cars and looking after them is a breeze once you have some decent wheel wax on them.

I would have thought that the rear tyre would be a size or two wider
As standard they had identical size 15" wheels and tyres on all four corners. (I suspect the S series may be unique among TVRs in this respect.) The standard wheels were similar dimensions to early Griff and Chim 400 fronts (different styles had slightly different offsets but same diameter and width). For example the V8S Imola wheels were identical to the Imola equipped Chima 400 fronts.
No doubt by now many owners have replaced the original wheels and chosen to fit bigger wheels on the rear for cosmetic or performance reasons. It strikes me as a sensible upgrade on those cars that have enough clearance.

unfortunately I fitted large front brakes - near 300mm and AP 4 pots, and rear discs too, meaning I cannot fit 15" rims without at least 2" spacers so fitted 17s. Seems to work fine (the rest of the electrics seems to be Achilles heel
although on the low side it seems to ride B roads ok without grounding as much as others
People who have followed say it is fine (or they are lying to me )

Putting 16's on the back means you'd have to drop quite a bit on the profile to keep the rolling radius the same. We've had a V8S in with Chimaera-sized front and rear wheels, and the back of it looked like a moon buggy! The Chimaera's designed to have the larger rear wheels - the S isn't.
Have seen quite a few S' with the Imolas on, though it's not my cup of tea visually. I think they're a bit bland, like some Fox branded wheels you'd have seen in the window at Les Smiths in 1998 I used to have them on my Chimaera, but I longed for Estorils. Imolas were fitted to them at the factory, though. It's not aftermarket. The later V8S' often came with them, along with some S4s. Not sure why, whether it was a no-cost option or something.
Personally I don't think you can beat the original 8-spoke OZ rims, though they need to be diamond cut to look right (again, only my opinion). I don't mind the early slot-style S1 rims, but they only look right on an S1 to me (says he with an S1 wearing 8-spokes....)

I'd agree with you on that. It's a shame the lacquer finish is so delicate. On my first run out with these lovely newly refurbished wheels I picked up two stone chips.
