I didn't see many when they were first launched but I'm starting to see them in some numbers now. The problem is at first they're not easy to recognise as from front or side profile you can too easily confuse them with either the Evoque or the Sport.

Hmm, new RR not selling, very much doubt that is the case, just a case of it still being very new and getting enough out there, another year and you wont be able to move for them, FFRR trading down, Evoques trading up, new buyers, it looks good, has the right badge and it will be bought/leased in droves.

I wonder whether they are perhaps a little too feminine looking? A little too pretty for their cost?

My Mrs thinks they're gorgeous but can't reconcile the cost. She said she's rather have a discovery and a new fleet of handbags!

I'd never drive one, for instance.

It's a huge jump from an Evoque to one of these.

nearly new they are knocking on similar money to a RRS, 50k for the base models. with a nice set of wheels they look far nicer than the RRS imo however i appreciate the RRS is more car.

Door handles look rubbish and cause a bit of aero drag.

When my old man was looking to replace his sport with one just to get it to similar levels of his sport it worked out at 70k I think he said they don’t come with leather on the base model and that’s around an extra 6k (might be part of a pack or exaggerated I don’t know)

I don't get what market segment they're supposed to be for given the other vehicles LR sell.

Theres a black low spec one near me. That's all I've seen apart from a few at the dealer.

Its a very good looking car but not value for money when comparing it with its F-Pace cousin which doesn't have the looks but which is hardly ugly.

Spend 50k and you'll get a decently equipped Jag. 50k won't get you much more than a basic Velar.

My Jag and Land Rover dealers are moving to a single site operation. Its going to be interesting to see how a prospective Velar customer acts when they see one standing next to a well appointed F-Pace.

I am thinking about trading up from the Disco Sport next time. I've had two and a Velar seems a logical move up. I won't have a huge budget, but if I can get an F-Pace with more toys and a better engine for the same or less, I'd be daft not to give the Jag serious consideration.

The same will go for the facelifted Evoque and the new small Jag SUV the E-Pace I think it's called. When the alternative is a glance away across the showroom, what do you go for?

For all JLR's success, their model line up is looking like the old BMC in the 60s. My old man told me he had a string of Farina models back then, Austin Morris MG and I think a Princess. All basically the same car but with small differences in body style, engines and equipment.

I guess JLR know what l they're doing if it's bringing in the cash.

laugh

Door handles can be made to look pretty much how the design team want them to look. I'll let you have drag to a point, but again, they can be designed to cause less drag and how much of an issue is a small bit of drag on a big car?

One benefit to them is, by and large, they do actually work.

Just seen a TV ad for the Velar and it got me thinking that despite living in LR heartland, I haven't seen a single one on the roads since they came out.

I priced one up for the Mrs online and was absolutely shocked at the price of a nicely specced one and therefore quickly removed the idea from my head.

Anyone here got one or know how they're selling?
Yes, definitely selling. Dozens round here. For a svelte and futuristic design they are surprisingly difficult to spot on the road though, especially covered in winter road grime.

Honestly, the Velar might not be a 250 gto but describing it as bloody awful is being contrary to the point of stupidity.
No, it's not - it's called an opinion, and one which I share, I think it's a nasty looking chintzy thing, but then I'm no fan of the RR/LR range anyway.

It will however be selling very well, just like the rest of the range, and long may that continue. It will also suffer horrendously with various, mostly electrical, ailments, just like the rest of the range, and hopefully one day they will be able to address that.

Where does the Velar sit, in the range, to me it just seems to be an updated RR Sport, given its size and styling?

I work next door to a very busy Land Rover dealer in Hertfordshire, there are always loads of Velars on the forecourt, but I've only seen four or five on the roads since August. Only one of those was a real basic one in Kaikoura Stone with the small wheels and the standard bumpers, looked really good.

Changing the subject a little, the dealer has a very high stock turnover, with the exception of the new Discovery; Some of those have been sat there for a good 3 months+ now..

You may not like it, but to call it's looks, bloody awful is either disingenuous or requiring a trip to Specsavers. And that's my opinion wink

Between the Evoque and RRS. If you see the three together, there is a clear size difference between the three.

There are quite a few knocking around where we are. Strange thing is quite a few seem to be base models with horrible wheels - something to do with lease deals maybe. When you see it looking like this, it doesn't look very special!

Looks like you can get £4k-5k discount on these already. Probably needs to be ~£8k to move the needle.

The Velar is a really nice car, but I just couldn't justify the cost once specified to a decent level. It doesn't 'feel' special in the same way a FFRR does - the leather and seats don't feel as nice, and parts of the interior are just not befitting of a £65K car.
