Are LR Velars selling?
Discussion
Hmm, new RR not selling, very much doubt that is the case, just a case of it still being very new and getting enough out there, another year and you wont be able to move for them, FFRR trading down, Evoques trading up, new buyers, it looks good, has the right badge and it will be bought/leased in droves.

It's a huge jump from an Evoque to one of these.Theres a black low spec one near me. That's all I've seen apart from a few at the dealer.
Its a very good looking car but not value for money when comparing it with its F-Pace cousin which doesn't have the looks but which is hardly ugly.
Spend 50k and you'll get a decently equipped Jag. 50k won't get you much more than a basic Velar.
My Jag and Land Rover dealers are moving to a single site operation. Its going to be interesting to see how a prospective Velar customer acts when they see one standing next to a well appointed F-Pace.
I am thinking about trading up from the Disco Sport next time. I've had two and a Velar seems a logical move up. I won't have a huge budget, but if I can get an F-Pace with more toys and a better engine for the same or less, I'd be daft not to give the Jag serious consideration.
The same will go for the facelifted Evoque and the new small Jag SUV the E-Pace I think it's called. When the alternative is a glance away across the showroom, what do you go for?
For all JLR's success, their model line up is looking like the old BMC in the 60s. My old man told me he had a string of Farina models back then, Austin Morris MG and I think a Princess. All basically the same car but with small differences in body style, engines and equipment.
I guess JLR know what l they're doing if it's bringing in the cash.

What problem does electric doors solve? I can think of several they might cause.
Door handles look rubbish and cause a bit of aero drag. Door handles can be made to look pretty much how the design team want them to look. I'll let you have drag to a point, but again, they can be designed to cause less drag and how much of an issue is a small bit of drag on a big car?
One benefit to them is, by and large, they do actually work.

Just seen a TV ad for the Velar and it got me thinking that despite living in LR heartland, I haven't seen a single one on the roads since they came out.
I priced one up for the Mrs online and was absolutely shocked at the price of a nicely specced one and therefore quickly removed the idea from my head.
Anyone here got one or know how they're selling?
Yes, definitely selling. Dozens round here. For a svelte and futuristic design they are surprisingly difficult to spot on the road though, especially covered in winter road grime.I priced one up for the Mrs online and was absolutely shocked at the price of a nicely specced one and therefore quickly removed the idea from my head.

Couldn't be any worse than that..but still manages to look bloody awful ..
Honestly, the Velar might not be a 250 gto but describing it as bloody awful is being contrary to the point of stupidity. It will however be selling very well, just like the rest of the range, and long may that continue. It will also suffer horrendously with various, mostly electrical, ailments, just like the rest of the range, and hopefully one day they will be able to address that.
I work next door to a very busy Land Rover dealer in Hertfordshire, there are always loads of Velars on the forecourt, but I've only seen four or five on the roads since August. Only one of those was a real basic one in Kaikoura Stone with the small wheels and the standard bumpers, looked really good.
Changing the subject a little, the dealer has a very high stock turnover, with the exception of the new Discovery; Some of those have been sat there for a good 3 months+ now..

Looks like you can get £4k-5k discount on these already. Probably needs to be ~£8k to move the needle.
The Velar is a really nice car, but I just couldn't justify the cost once specified to a decent level. It doesn't 'feel' special in the same way a FFRR does - the leather and seats don't feel as nice, and parts of the interior are just not befitting of a £65K car.
