A Case Study in Being a Bellend

How inconsiderate do you need to be? People really don't appreciate how dazzling modern LED brake lights are at night, especially close up. It's probably borderline dangerous scorching the retinas of the driver behind you. I know this topic has been done before but I felt like a rant as this is one of my absolute biggest pet peeves on the road. Plus it just amused me slightly that I happened across a near-perfect score of bellend bingo.

Is the critcism fair if it's an automatic? Whilst mine is not an Audi, I leave mine on the footbrake.

I'm all for being considerate, but cycling through the autobox every time I am stationary seems excessive to me. Admittedly though for a train crossing I'd stick it in park, but more for convenience than courtesy.

Same goes for my motorcycles, two of them are LEDs. Not sure how annoying they are, but I can't be going through all the gears to find neutral everytime I stop, it just isn't realistic.

Some of the most recent automatics with auto hold do not turn the lights off when they are engaged. Also, shifting to neutral often can cause additional wear.

Also in relation to the lights maybe backing off the car in front and following T&T might cause less eye strain. I assume you won't be using your phone whilst "driving" either...

Wear of what? Less wear than that of holding the brakes against the torque converter I'd wager, both being totally insignificant...

In the car, in a single instance, no. But repeat the process thousands of times a year, for the very small minority of people who struggle with this, and I'd argue my inconvenience hugely outweighs theirs.

In the bikes, one is similarly an auto, the other one frankly, yes, finding neutral has always been a bit of a . So no chance there.

Probably an Auto requiring footbrake (you dont put many modern auto's in Neutral anymore)

Shifting between neutral and drive constantly. Actually mine has no creep when using auto hold....turn auto hold off when parking though as it makes it easier.

I wouldn't have private plates myself, but if it makes someone happy, go for it.
But yeah, 10 mins on the brakes is a bit stupid.

I think it's daft that the HOLD feature applies the brake lights, but there you go. On my Merc going from Drive to Park is a push of a button so it's not the end of the world for me. Certainly on older style autos it was considered better practice to leave it in D and use the foot brake.

To the OP, never go to America where the majority of cars are automatics.

This annoys me as well, it's inconsiderate driving but it does happen a lot.

I make the point of knocking it into neutral and engaging the handbrake particularly when you know you're going to sitting for sometime, as at a level crossing. It's just good manners really.
