Giving TVR a valuation of circa £17 million. Difficult business, and brand, to value I bet.
...which is roughly what Smolensky was alleged to have paid for it in 2004?

A very shrewd move as it gives the Welsh government a seat at the top table to ensure the success of the company employing local people, paying local business rates and feeding into the local economy. I would imagine any suggestion by the board in a few yrs time to relocate elsewhere would come under fire from this share holder.
No it doesn't. 3% gets you a voice. Nothing more.

What a good idea. Some actual commercial forward thinking from a government entity...remarkable.

It’s dreadful. Like that white elephant of a racing circuit.

I'm thinking maybe TVR could name a car with a Welsh sounding name

Odd that - was thinking the same as I read the article. There's a lovely village a few miles from me called Eglwyswrw. There's a fab / eye-brow raising name if ever there was one (even if it does only mean Ursulas church).

Not sure the TVR Cwtch would catch on though...

I was involved in a few investments involving the Welsh Development Board years ago, if the due diligence done by the Welsh Assembly is as extensive as it was then then it will have been done well and well protected.

How do you protect such an investment?

Being Welsh I’m very happy with this the tax payer potentially gets a return for their investment. It’s just a shame the UK giv don’t follow suit. How many grants do they dish out with no control over the company or say in what they do?

Headline in 2 years time when tvr goes bust again, which it will...

Welsh government lost £2million in failed sports car company TVR shambles

Since this is the forum of the TVR, Will any of you actually buy one? I think it’s going to be a case of GT86 syndrome. The car everyone says they want, but then no one buys it

Fortunately they didn't invest in the Circuit of White Elephant Wales, so they clearly have some smartish people looking at the investments!

Wonder what half a million of taxpayer money will be worth in 3 years

I like that - should have gone with Gruffydd as the new cars name

Now I'm new around here but I see that you have a bit of a reputation, to say the least, for odd posts. But, discounting the poorest country bit, which is clearly nonsense as Wales isn't a country at all, and as a confirmed cynic especially when the public gravy train is involved, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was some shenanigans going on with that investment. After all, what usually happens when government invests in private enterprises?

Not sure if you're due a parrot there. And don't forget that "Trevor" is a welsh name anyway.

Good to know that the Welsh Government has enough spare money to pump half a million into TVR.

Presumably they'll now stop bleating about all the EU hand-outs they're going to miss out on after their country voted to leave.
