Is it not april 1st?

l can't see the attraction at all. the G-wagon has always out performed the defender, on and off road. Now it seems its going to do it with pricing also.

at least JLR know how to make reliable products.

Will sell, good marketing.

But 400hp and 106mph. Is that a record?
And yet someone has decided that it needs 8 gears!
Well why would you use another gearbox when the engine is already set up for it? Saves on development and production costs AND gives a better end result.

Or would you specifically build it with a 4 speed box, for example, even if it would cost more AND be worse?

Massively overpriced bag - o - cack.
Why would any sane person want to pay 150k for a second hand re-hashed car when they can simply do it themselves or dare I say it go out and buy something a lot better for a tenth of the price!! Some people must have too much folding and not enough brains!!

After 30 years in HM Forces I can tell you that G Wagen's were often towed up god awful terrain on Ops by our 90's/110's and later by Wolf's. The LR reputation is earned for what it can do off road. Nato forces always commented on it's ability. Especially for it's size.

They'll sellout, are they worth the money well that's down to the person buying & by the sounds of it the answer is a resounding yes.

Weren't they saying the same about the M Spec Nur R34 (Nissan did the same a Land Rover & bought back some Skylines) & if you can find one for sale today you'll be paying a huge premium.

Well, I've put my name down for one.
Nice! Will you be putting it use (on and off-road), or will you be keeping the mileage down and treating it as investment?
It won't be an investment car; for me it's just the perfect Defender. I love the charm of them, and can handle the agricultural feel; in fact that's what I like. But a Transit diesel? Has to be a V8...

I appreciate it's expensive. But I also appreciate what it takes to make low production runs.

Supposedly a third of the allocation is gone.

Feck it, I love them and would jump at the chance to have a go. Mine is Bowler tuned to Fast Road Spec (map and new intercooler) and it handles ok with a couple of changes to the shocks. Added about £6k of upgrades.

However it's pushing out just under half the bhp so God knows what anyone can usefully do with the remaining 200 horses. Mine is still used off-road as a gun bus tractor and beating wagon, so perhaps this is where the difference lies, the V8 won't venture into the same places.

Anyway, gratuitous 90 shot

Why the hell did they not offer these from the factory originally?

Crap engines (and gearbox/axles) were always the defender's weakness

I reckon with some stiff negotiating you could have this for an extra 25 grand over Landovers poor attempt

much better and twice the power smilesmilesmile

or brand spanking new for 200k

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

or 20 grand under cost of a second hand defender,

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

brand new 571 bhp G wagen, although if I had that kind of cash the Brabus would be on my drive

Seems like Land Rover cottoned on to the demand for high performance Land Rover Defenders. Twisted, JE etc etc were all doing well out of V8 conversions and LR has jumped on the band wagon. However, it smacks a bit of bullying the smaller niche players.

I have driven the 6.2 LS engined 110 by Twisted...and its a beauty. With the correct mods to the suspension and brakes the Defender is very capable.
Saw Twisted at Goodwood Revival n thought they looked really nice..!.. they have an LS3 for sale on their website..but POA...imagine it’s well into six~figure territory..??

I like !!!

Impossible, totally impossible, G wagons are German and German cars are perfect (sarcasm but apparently what a lot of people on here think).

I can't get beyond the price (and the feeble attempt to pretend they have mirrored the G-wagon strategy). I imagine they will offer every owner the chance to pick it up at the factory so that Ralf Speth and the entire Land Rover board can individually point at and hysterically laugh in the face of every sucker that buys one.

It will sell, hell there are £100k (and then some) old school Minis selling.

If there are sufficient individuals to snap up this edition at £150k a pop (and bear in mind these sort guys can spunk considerably more on just a watch) then fair play to LandRover for cashing in.

Well 'snap' ish. a while in west Africa, we used nato landcruisers as a more reliable option to wolfs, the G wagon's were better still but in short supply.

We would have had them if it wasn't for the fact it didn't look great buying German during the initial procurement cycle.

So 2 years of the 5.0Litre then? Or the new engine must be close as the whole fleet pretty much uses that engine? At least as a stop gap?
It’s the XK/XJ 385bhp V8 with slight tuning. The 3.0 supercharged then replaced that with the launch of F type. They have just dusted a few of those off a shelf than make anything new.

As someone who owns a similar vehicle with similar power, I can assure you they are capable of far more.
However, most off road tyres are limited to around 100mph. Having a 35” full mud terain fall apart at silly speeds is going to ruin your day and potentially someone else’s.

GBP150000 for a 2nd hand defender with a v8 plonked into it? - isn't that nearly 4x original cost of a defender 90?

Makes these look positively more bargain like - at least AM changed the lights and the body panels as well for a 2x increase from std Vanquish !!

rofl and the award for most pointless comparison between cars goes to you!!!

£150k? Nah, I'd rather buy a cheap house and rent it out....

I don't think someone looking for a Defender is going to think about a GT3, I'm not quite sure the GT3 has quite the 4x4 capabilities of this to be honest, though I'd be happy for you to prove me wrong!
