There isn't. They're second-hand Pumas JLR have bought back.

If I had to have a Defender, isn't this closer to what its really all about, and a properly new car.....oh and £100k less!

Yes there's no V8, but lets not try and pretend a Defender is a rival to a G Wagon

Exactly, a Defender doesn’t have the same awful image for a start.

Omg. Wet myself reading this article. Who in their right mind would buy an old land rover for 150,000! Surely the legal system should use this as a definitive test for insanity if one was remotely keen to part with money for it...

Sorry, yes it does. Defenders, in the last 5 years, have gone from being utilitarian 4x4s to vlogger ttmobiles.

Eh?! So JLR is buying back Defenders, re-engine-ing them and selling them as new?! Surely that's fraud!

Hmm - I think that's an edit made to the article since I read it... it still stinks IMO.

Yep, we did that a couple of pages back...

<shrug> They're open about it, so...? If you don't like it, buy a v8-upgraded second-hand Defender from somebody else.

The irony obviously being that the chap with £150k to throw at a pointless bit of pure fun is going to be the abject opposite of a fool. wink

Fools are people who walk into a Ladbrokes with the cash they need for their weekly food shop. A fool is the chap who borrows money to buy something he can’t afford. The world is full of fools but the chap who has acquired enough wealth that he can throw £150k at a frivolous toy for the hell of it really isn’t going to be one of them.

It's not even as if it's £150k straight down the drain. What'll it be worth in <say> two years when a different toy catches the eye? Even if it depreciates, it'll probably still be a reasonable chunk.

How very judgemental of you. Could have won Euromillions or have rich parents. Maybe he should pay a bit more tax than he does.

Remember that £150k is just the "starting from" price. There is also a 110 model that'll cost even more.

A fool and their money and all that...

School of thought going around is that it's simply a marketing ploy to keep the Defender name in the public eye, and the from 150,000 smackeroonies is to manage expectations when the price of the new Defender is announced.

Still not figured out some of the issues on the body panels, it's already seriously overweight apparently, and despite the claim it will be all alloy, it's not been possible to fabricate certain panels with sufficient strength without internal raw steel bracing bonded in. Roof still a big issue recently as last month, talk of fixing just that would add 50kg. Seems implausible to me, but who knows.

So overweight and overpriced. But it will have magnificent articulation, so that will please the nutters in 20th hand jacked up Discoveries. Be really good for bouncing up the kerb outside Fortnum's.

hehe I do get a chuckle out of the 'one life, live it' crowd who think they should be the target audience.
