Love this, more vehicles should be done like this. The prestige brands ought to bring g it back, i. e. A basic service class on steelies and cloth trim

Utterly crap and lazy statement.

I own a LR Defender AND a Toyota Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser is the one that let me down and stranded the worst (complete transmission failure, after getting bogged down and stuck during a river crossing).
You're right!! I travel extensively all over the Middle East and Northern Africa...and I see so many Ladies...oh wait...no I see mainly Land Cruisers and other Japanese metal...in terms of utility vehicles. In fact the only real place I've seen flash German stuff is Dubai...and a little bit in Saudi (though not as much as you'd think)...north Africa lot's of Toyotas etc...and also Dusters... personal experience is not the same thing as meta-data...

There will probably be very little market for it in this country but overseas I'm sure it'll do very well. They might sell what, a hundred of these a year or so in the UK? A little more?
Yes Unless they do a van version and businesses can claim the vat back, then all these
people who have attempted to turn a pick up into a van with one of those stupid plastic tops
will see them as great farm ,shooting or service vehicles but without the condensation , access and security issues I will certainly be considering one or two as a former isuzu trooper van owner ...

Exactly - no market or point until such a version is available

On the other hand when did you last see a 60's Land Cruiser? I wouldn't give a Series 2 Land Rover a second glance, they're everywhere.

I like these but my local dealer has the road tax at £800 for the 3 door and £1200 for the 5 door eek

Is this the recent road tax change where it drops after the first year for new cars?

Yup, £1,200 for the first year and £140 thereafter. Seems fine to me, but then I'm from Ireland where the rate for this car is €1,200 yearly and the top rate is €2,350 eekwobble

I've been planning on getting a 2 or 3 yr old uk spec car and fitting steel wheels/bigger tyres - my ideal 150 Landcruiser , so much so that i spent some time finding the part no of the steel wheels (Toyota Part No 4261160770 ) hehe.

Toyota Gibrtalter Stockholdings supply base spec cars - but not to the UK.

An auto box, steel rimmed, propper tyres, no fuss, 150 would suit me down to the ground - something to keep for years.
Only i'd want base sat nav and reverse camera , so im probably looking at an Active and try and get the wheels swapped ? smokin

Either way, even though i've had Land Rover stuff for years, there's nothing for me there now - even the new "Utility" Land Rover -
the Disco 5 Commercial Van is £2500 more than passenger models.

Love the idea of this too. Mitsubishi still sells the Shogun SG2 here which is their base version and they are bringing a new Shogun Sport (based on their pickup) but it has too many toys and so is too expensive (starts at £37k...)

Has anyone driven the new 2.8 D4D? A massive LR addict but we have grown tired of waiting to see the new Defender and a D5 is too flash for us. Spent last 3 weeks in Morocco worried the Defender would throw a wobbly and leave us stranded. Never saw another JLR product in the whole month.

Fancy one of these quite badly. Not sure on auto or manual though. Might nip down and test this one https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Just can’t quite believe I am feeling like a cruiser after years and years in a Landy but they have lost their way for me.

I have a current hilux which shares the same engine a GD series, the UK cruiser gets the 2.8 version mine is a 2.4
Even in 2.4 form it pulls well and returns low 30's mpg in my use which is anything from farm tracks to motorways
yes I agree LR have lost their way ,however they must be doing what people want their SUV's are clogging up every UK town though land rovers are poor if you really need a 4x4 the old defenders and series are quite appealing as a hobby fun vehicle , the new stuff is dreary , I really hope they can start to think about rugged looks and make something square again.,
instead of the soap bars in various sizes ... I don't think you would look back once you have a toyota It's the worlds workhorse
when getting somewhere without problems can literally be a life or death situation ....

They do in Ireland, buy one over there and import it.

If you are buying it for business use you won't have to pay the VAT if you have a valid GB VAT no.

This would suit me, but I would have liked the option to add alloys. However, my current landncruiser keeps on going.

I don’t get the comment people make on here about pick up owners putting a box on the back to make it look like a SUV????? Have you not thought they may need one??

Not sure why they don’t type approve them to tow 3500kg, given most pickups can now.

Litle market for stripped-out stuff in the developed world I would think.
