If it gets some of the Fiesta/Focus ST’s off the roads in Solihull then I’m afraid I see that as a good thing. I can’t remember seeing one being driven remotely safely. There’s a lime green Focus ST around the Haslucks Green Rd area that pulls out of every junction wheel spinning on full throttle usually doing around 60mph in a residential road with cars both sides. Little wonder Solihull Updates posted a rolled over vehicle every day for five days straight last week. Then there’s the two ST’s that took each other out racing out of the JLR plant at shift change.

I’d hate to see anyone’s pride and joy stolen, but until I start to see the Ford ST owners following the law then I’m not going to have any sympathy when they are the victims of crime themselves.

This may get me flamed or accused of being a troll – but please – if you drive a Focus / Fiesta ST/RS around Solihull stop driving like a tw@t.

I sympathise, I'm 49 but drive like a Grandad (although I'm not one).

I don't live far from Hasluck's Green road but there's a stack of cars that go up and down speeding, not just Fords.

There's a Fiesta Red and Black that had a private plate that myself and the guys I car share with, regularly see driving like an idiot-in fact, he turned right down Newborough road coming from the Stratford road and drove the wrong side of the bollard nearly hitting me and the wife as we crossed. He got what he deserved as it was smashed up outside Shirley kebab house a couple of weeks ago.

A mate of mine had his brand new Transit custom broken into the same way. Picked lock, rolled van forward, emptied the back. Apparently it's quite common with new Transits and the last couple I've hired have had smashed/replaced locks so is this an ST/RS issue or a Ford problem?

I know Fords always used to be easy to steal (having had to break in and hotwire a friends Sierra years ago I was amazed at how easy and quick it was for a non ) but one would imagine they'd have nailed this by now?
Ford the model is almost insignificant, lock pick and OBD key duplicate drive away or instead of stealing it just take parts from it.

Some simple stuff you can do;

Theres a fuse behind the glove box you can pull to stop power to the OBD, it won't stop if the attached device is self powered though
RS components sell a cheap plastic OBD port cover for £1.60 delivered. That can be removed with basic tools but if they are going through a window would slow them down.

After thats its the more expensive options like;
re-locate OBD port and fit a dummy
diskloc
driveway security
get a shotgun license
etc..

Manufacturers need to up their game re; OBD theft.

Thieves will always find a way around security if they really want something but many cars are just too easy to steal.

As others have said - pull fuse/relocate OBD/ OBD lock/ disclock if it's an RS/ ST in Brum.

Ghost system if you don't mind spending some money.

Unfortunately none of the above will stop car thieves trying with the resultant hassle.

Imagine what must have happened to you in your life to make you believe people deserve to have their pride and joy stolen.

At least they didn't try entering your house, which is the most worrying.

I wouldn't mind an Focus ST estate...but this has been knocked off my list, together with a Golf R frown

RE the OBD ports, snip the cable up behind the dash and re-join the wires with connectors. If you're not sure what you're doing, an Auto Electrician could do this for you in less than an hour. You can then leave it unplugged, meaning the OBD port doesn't work but come servicing time plug it all back in.

Completely off topic and apologies for that but way back when I was at junior school there was a creepy kid called Charlie who ate worms, wore a blue snorkel parka zipped up to his nose all year round and continually smelt of off milk.

About the only interaction Charlie had with the other kids was to sidle up beside you and ask if you wanted to see his "pride and joy".

It was a rhethorical question, whatever answer you gave he got his cock out anyway.

That phrase has never sat right with me since.

The OP replied to my post commenting how he'd narrowly avoided being run over on Newborough Road in Shirley. Well guess what - The road's currently closed with a woman in critical condition in hosiptal having been knocked over on the same road. Police everywhere, air ambulance circling earlier looking for somewhere to land.

As I said, nobody wants to see peoples cars stolen, but the misuse of powerful cars in the area is deadly.

well thats sad but its not really relevant, is it?

What makes you think that the person who hit that woman was speeding like a hooligan in a Fiesta ST?

People will drive like lunatics in all kinds of cars. Also a bit of fast driving every now and again is not necessarily dangerous... most accidents are not caused by speed.

Good point, OP doesn’t have to move to the North West, Yorkshire, Or London, just a few miles down the road to Leicester will avoid any further issues as there are no scrotes there.

By the time mine gets nicked it'll be worth nowt.

I thought they were using radio repeaters or something to steal them these days, not an old crowbar they found in a skip.

i don't get it, why does everyone want to nick parts off a fiesta ST? the ST-line looks so much like it. can't say i've seen or heard of many people turning their non-ST car into a ST-lookalike, people aren't as bothered these days.

People are getting hung up about ST thefts but it's all keyless fords. Loads of Kugas go, all sorts of Fiestas and Focus (non ST)

I'm in the midlands too, grew up in Solihull and have a 2017 Focus ST3 so theft was a worry before I got it but I've done all I can to protect it by having CCTV fitted, a tracker, OBD relocated with a dummy in its place and I use a disklok and leave the key in a Faraday bag. I don't drive like a tt up Haslucks Green Road though laugh

Touch wood no unwanted attention yet but there are other STs near me with no extra security so hopefully mine will be the harder target and keep them away but essentially if they want it, they'll get it.
