Warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Chap at work had a Hyundai i30 and the engine went bang after 4 or 5 years - within warranty, with FHSH. Battle went on for months and involved legal letters changing hands before they replaced engine as a "show of goodwill".

Had a Kia Pro Cee'd (3-door Cee'd) for a couple of years. Only a year old when I bought it.

Generally a nice car and well put together, comfortable and enough toys to keep most people happy.

You had to get it serviced by Kia though, so not that cheap. Also, warranty doesn't cover consumables, so I was quote £550 for 2 new discs and pads!

Did it myself instead for £180 parts.

The kia brand, arnt they top of the JD Power survey these days? A 7 year warranty is seriously impressive... There is a reason so few have failed to match it, or even come close! Can't afford to swallow the warranty bill....

Bragging about savings is the new bling - I bought this widget for £49 in a sale. It was £249 in Currys.
I'd hope so as well, have you seen how much debt the average person is in!?!? About bloody time people started taking some responsibility & pride in not drowning in finance & debt.

got to be honest they never used to be on my radar but recently they don't look too bad and this even seems quite interesting...

I was having a look around one of those last weekend at a Sainsburys supermarket, it was by the entrance all stickered up with some old boy salesman from the local dealer.
All very nice I thought till I got to the front and read the spec and then got to the price....41k on the road.
Would anyone pay that for a KIA, no matter how good it was?
I'm a bit out of touch with new car pricing I admit so I dont know...but 41k!

Nobody will give you a warranty on discs and pads wearing out!

Also, doing a job DIY using non dealer parts is cheaper than paying a main dealer to do it?!
Hold the front page!

Servicing is pretty reasonable IMHO. I got a 3 service pack for £600. That's proper, full services as I do 20k per year. £200 per year for main dealer service isn't bad at all IMHO.

60k on mine so far, only issue was a flickering headlight - replaced under warranty with no quibble at all.

I must say, the warranty does seem like a very good thing, but does a Hyundai / Kia becomes almost worthless the moment it turns 8 years old? It’s USP has just disappeared! eek
I wouldn't say so. Chances are it's got a full main dealer service history and had been well maintained. That's probably more than you can say for the average focus etc that's been out of warranty for 4 years.
They aren't worth much at 8 years old, but then again what other mainstream normal /family/white goods type cars do retain a high value at that age?

What surprised me was that Kia give you a 7 year warranty on an approved used Kia from the date of sale, not the balance of the 7 year warranty so in theory the car can be under warranty until it is 8 1/2 years old.

Sounds like a damn good warranty.
Op’s workmate sounds like a bit of a bore.
Not Kia’s fault.

My mother has a Venga, i can't stand it but she loves it. It's 6 years old and hasn't broken on her yet. She's claimed a few things on the warranty but nothing that stopped her driving it. Latest was the 2 rear doors had bubbling paint inside the door shut, no rust or anything but i guess if left it would lead to rust, she took it into the dealer, they photographed it, took copies of the service book and booked it into the bodyshop, they replaced the doors without question.

For her the warranty is great, saved plenty of money she doesn't have. Car came from Motorpoint IIRC

The bonkers warranties on Kia and Hyundai cars are certainly attractive to me. Especially the i30n. I wonder if they’d be so “no questions asked” about honouring the warranty on a car that’s certain to have had a good thrashing.

I see MG also have a 7 year warranty on their ZS, though 5 years on the GS and now on any 2018 MG3.

Chances of MG having a UK presence in 3 years to deal with your claim though.... hehe

Which was it - 4 years or 5 (FHSH suggests Hyundai in which case warranty is only for 5 years rather than KIA's 7)?

That's the trouble with second-hand anecdotes though - they tend to lack detail and accuracy.

The guys clearly pussy whipped and should not be bragging to a petrol head.

Bet the waranty is worth not a lot and is only valid if the cars serviced by Kia (apparently the servicing costs are horrendous).
Any VAT registered garage is good enough to keep the warranty going. But yes, servicing prices are expensive at Kia.

I've got a kia in the "fleet". Im impressed. Servicing always comes in less than quoted, warranty work has been done without argument, and it's got more toys than my friends 2015 Q5.

Badge snobs are funny.

Compared to what? Do you have an example?

My Mrs has a little 1.25 petrol Kia, bought with a service pack for 3 years at a cost of £299. £100 per year for full main dealer service - how much less do you pay for yours?!

Our last little Peugeot 2008 cost me nearly £300 to service at 20k miles.

Kia being a expensive? They're all pretty expensive these days.

I have never owned nor will I own a Ferrari but to my knowledge current cars carry a seven year warranty.

To a Petrol head it’s not impressive I’ve had BMWs go 100’000 miles over 10 years with little more than servicing. I’d expect most new cars to easily get past 7 years with the same. It used to be the case that after the 7 years KIAs and Dewoos used to be worthless they would have depreciated so heavily.
If BMW can go 10 years without issue, where is their 7 year warranty? Surely they would just tap that one into the back of the net to clean up the last few punters that haven't bought into German bling.

I don't buy the depreciation thing either, most cars have done the bulk of their depreciating by 7 years and a Kia will have been cheaper in all likelihood than the car that came with less warranty, so they had less money tied up in the car in the first place.
In fairness to BMW, Mercedes, et al, their warranties are unlimited mileage. The Kia 7 year jobbie is 100,000 miles.
In the UAE, all Suzuki cars have a 7 year unlimited mileage warranty - very handy, since the heat destroys plastic components of cars very quickly.

7 Year Warranty is a major 'Feature' of a Kia
No worse than bragging about MPG, Road Tax Cost, 0-60, Top Speed, etc. Sad Top Trumps ?

I had a Ceed Diesel for 6 Years. 17K Commute.
Service Cost not too bad. Peace of mind that the warranty would cover any serious problems.
Nothing went wrong other than Wheel Bearing and Drop Link at around 5 Years. Both covered under Warranty.
Kia seem pretty good at honouring the warranty.
