Great car!!!

But it's standing OP something like £20k and might be worth £35k?

Paint might be another £5k.

The profit on these usnt always clear cut.
Seems pretty clear cut to me based on what you've said here

loved my 964 till the headstud's started snapping, engine had 120k miles. When the engine revved you could see the cylinder base gapping from the crankcase.

was quoted £10k repair as a starter, £5k in rebuild parts, then if the pistons, rings and cylinders needed replacing minimum of £3k extra, oh and throw a clutch in (might as well).. that's to return to a fresh but standard engine. Its not unknown to go 3.8 with a different ECU.

964 Carrera 2 was 1,350kg. It's approximately 140kg heavier than the Carrera 3.2 (but has an extra 19bhp).
964 Carrera 4 was 1,450kg. So approximately 240kg heavier than the Carrera 3.2 (but has an extra 19 bhp).

Good piece! I'm not sure I could take the stress of street parking something like this though...

These were always the dream for me, i remember an awesome one popping up for sale around 6-7 years ago for 13k and i had 2 cars that would total that value but running the thing at 90 miles a day wouldnt have been possible! (I was 22 at the time also) Now just look at the prices of them!

A good friend has a significantly modified one he races in hillclimb and i've been lucky enough to spend time in it on trackdays, so all is not lost!

Are you talking about an orange one owned by Martin?

Afraid not, a white one owned by a Simon!

Nice article. A good read and a great car!
+1

Enjoyed reading that. Didn’t know about the lights and cool story about track day with your mum.

It looks like it’s not just M96/97 engines cost money then! tongue out;)

What a great article, it almost identical to my own experience.

I bought a 964 C4 8 years ago, which had been a childhood dream.

I still use it regularly for commuting, I have a roof rack for my bikes/paddleboards and even do at least one trackday a year!

My plan is to one year drive it out to the Alps in the winter on a ski trip, to see how well the AWD system works on the hairpins

It's a definite keeper and even after 8 years look forward to every time I get in it for a journey, (a driving experience that is really involving and reminds you that the car is a mechanical thing!)

I’ve akeays dreamed of a 964 turbo s since seeing bad boys (sounds like some dodgy porn according to my missus)

A lottery win would be needed I think

He he! Good to hear that there are least two still being used on the track in anger! When I owned mine there used to be dozens of us in them on track days. Sadly with the increase in the value they're now a rare sight on the track.

That was a 3.6 IIRC, not the lightweight 'S'

Would love either mind, or a 3.3 for that matter!

Great article - thankyou for sharing. I have a 964 C2 which I have owned since 2001 and in which I have done 64,000 miles, now showing 138,000. I love driving it today just as much as I did when I bought it. No intention of selling ever!

I chose the 964 because it is old enough to look like a 911 and modern enough to use as a DD (which I did for the first few years). Size is a great advantage, too.

Just to follow up on this, since the article the car has had an upgrade to RUF RCT EVO-spec Bilstein PSS10 Suspension and a significant drop in ride height. It's also had the RUF RCT anti-roll bars fitted. Hurt the wallet like hell, but boy does she handle now.
