That's exactly the same one I saw on Ebay, they have a black one too.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222646895785
Love these, I'd have one again now as a bit of fun.
Used to lurk on Scoobynet before, here, came so close to Impreza ownership a few times but always bottled out and bought something less shouty.
Its the only car my missus says she wont get in (Knobhead cars apparently), but they are great fun, loads of my mates had them, back in 2002 an STI with the PPP pack seemed so impossibly rapid, still quick nowadays.
Best of the bunch I thought was the WR1 a mate had, not too lairy looking and plenty of power as standard so you didnt need to fiddle and it seemed reliable.
Prices seemed to have firmed up, a Golf R will be better in most ways, that is progress but the Subarus just have a lot of personality, Golf R "owners" will try to race, and probably beat you in their remapped R's, and they are a great package but an Impreza is still a really fantastic and fun car, also, buy the right one
A relative used to work for international motors (Subaru plus others importer) and various other car companies over the years, so always arrives in something nice/interesting, including an SVX at the time, then the next time, this sporty looking but fairly nondescript four door, he took me round the block and I was astounded how quick it felt, he said they were starting to bring them in, it was one of the first Impreza Turbos in the UK, for the early nineties it felt mental, I had a 2 litre Montego "GTI" at the time.

As much as I admire Forrester STIs, it's a difficult purchase to justify. £10,000 for a decent one with reasonable mileage, along with all the extra question marks that come with an imported car.
Or get an MX5 or MR2 or whatever, or a GT86. Cheaper in every department. Probably more fun. No mpg guilt and or lamenting all the performance you paid for but can't exploit because of the rest of the traffic. You might commute on B-roads, but I assume we aren't talking about a muddy, gravelly rally stage...
If you're rich enough though, fair enough.

Bet you anything a WRX STI gets better mpg than MX-5!
Cool thread.
I had a Scooby Impreza Sti V6 coupe back in the day, 2002 /3 . Was also part of the scoobynet crowd, In fact I brought my car from someone on that site.
Was a tremendous car, savagely quick but wasn't too reliable. I moved on to a twin turbo supra which I only recently sold with 200K miles, original turbos and gearbox.
All these car's suffer from the same fate, eventually they go down in price and the chav's get hold of them. Impreza, my old M3 Evo convertible, supras - although these have recently shot up, all end up the same.
Golf R will be no different. The market is now flooded with these and soon these will be the preferred ride of the chavs. The moment you see after market lexus style lights on a car you know it it's now in the chav world. :-)
I would certainly have a impreza again, although I would go for a wagon. I doubt I would go for a STI more a UK PP version. Parts for the STI were dear back then, also trying to find one now that isn't modified, or if it is done correct is near on impossible.
Lancers may have ultimately lasted longer but aren't they ugly now. After the Evo 7 it then went down hill, hence why Evo 6's are demanding so much money now. God knows what a 22b is worth now.
However, any standard, non modified versions of the above will eventually creep up in price. Evos / Imprezas / Supras / M3 / non molested examples are certainly demanding large numbers.

I'd have thought that site would have been enough to kill anyone's aspirations to own an Impreza. I signed up when I had mine and could not believe the stupidity and drivel posted on it. Makes PH look incredibly high brow. Thankfully there are better Scooby sites out there.designforlife said:
I used to get about 23mpg in my mk2 mx5...crap fuel consumption considering how slow they are.
Yeah I got 25, never understood how they are so bad given it was only a 1.8 and only weighed a ton. They are not fast cars, why do they use so much fuel? Bad engine design I guess..?treeroy said:

I think it's a good time to buy an Impreza, get a special edition JDM and something which hasn't been messed about with and it will be very reliable if you keep on top of maintenance.
I have recently come back to Subaru's a few years ago after a long time away and currently own a V2 STI RA and also a 2004 Spec C WR on it's way from Japan now. If you want something for everyday use get a Forester STI or a wagon STI, if something for the weekend concentrate on getting a Type R, Type RA. Spec C etc and they are just so much fun, old school enjoyable motoring but be prepared to pay a bit for them now!
My V2 RA, awesome bit of kit!

I used to have a 2004 JDM Impreza that had been tweaked by Litchfield Imports - A Type 20.
I bought a 22B privately about 10 years ago. The vendor took my JDM WRX Bugeye in part exchange. He brought a friend along with him in a Hawkeye Type 20. It would have been a nearly new car and looked awesome in white. My lasting memory of looking over it was the inside of the boot. It had nothing in there (no carpet, no boot floor): just glossy white paint and a massive plastic container filled with water for the water spray intercooler.Scoobynet and SIDC were great from 1999 until around 2007, when the prices for uk cars had dropped.
Having owned two Foresters alongside my STI Imprezas I honestly cannot see the point of the Forester STI as it loses some of the better XT items like heated seats and cruise control.
Honestly, I would either buy the best STI classic i could afford, knowing that the prices are already going up, or a 2004 sidetrack Twinscroll as those prices will rocket soon. Neither will depreciate now.
EVO or STI. Check for rust.
Both were imports that arrived with no under seal.

Theres some much better / more discreet vehicles to rob than imprezas these days.
A Golf R is the prime example
As an all rounder the Golf is better. Its cheaper to run, tax and more drivable with a flexible engine. The Golf is the sensible option.....But..A Golf R is the prime example
It looks no different to a GTD, quite dull in comparison to a modern WRX STI. The MK 7.5 looks better than the mk 7 admittedly but it looks like any Golf, and that may appeal to some.
The STI is thirsty, expensive to tax, parts are pricey and there are less dealers. There are far fewer around too.
I put a deposit on a new R in 2016, as although I would prefer the STI it would be silly and expensive. Luckily VW messed me about and cancelled my order dropping my midnight blue colour, so I got a refund of my deposit.
I bought a used MK 6 GTI wondering what to do and what to buy but I hated how flawed it is in terms of grip so I bought with my heart... and love it ...
Its raw, has old school turbo lag kick in the back, and corners like nothing I have ever owned

Pre the days where fuel consumption was much of an issue i think...back in the early 2000s 25ish mpg wasn't seen as too terrible. Crap engines when you consider that the older 4g92 mivec from mitsubishi was 1.6l and pushing out 172bhp naturally aspirated.
My integra DC5 actually does slightly better on fuel than the mx5 ever did, and I drive it pretty enthusiastically.
The MX-5 engines were hopeless. Their inherent reliability was their only positive. Awful fuel economy and needed to be revved hard but never really felt like they loved to spin up. Still, the rest of the car was such good fun that I can forgive that (former NB owner). My integra DC5 actually does slightly better on fuel than the mx5 ever did, and I drive it pretty enthusiastically.

I have a 2017 WRX STi in white but must admit the older Imprezas still look great. It looks no different to a GTD, quite dull in comparison to a modern WRX STI. The MK 7.5 looks better than the mk 7 admittedly but it looks like any Golf, and that may appeal to some.

I could have saved myself £20,000 and bought a decent one for £10,000 and still scratched my itch. Damn !
My road tax is only £140 though and mpg is 27 around town and 38 on a run. Only use shell super and keep the dccd on Sport setting.
Just fitted Nokia winter tyres and ride is much better than on the OEM Dunlops,
Great cars. Love mine

Ive new Dunlop RT2 fitted all round on mine and grip is excellent especially in wet.
No need for winter tyres here in Scarborough, it was 14 degrees today so winter tyres would be no good.
I only use Shell v power, average is 28mpg round town. Did go up to 30, but no idea how you can get 38. I am on I mode most running about too.
