The 'my front numberplate isn't fitted and i'm not......'
Discussion
I was in my Caterham a few years ago with aeroscreen and helmet "making some significant progress" at around 11pm, came to a 40 mph zone and as you do, didn't need to slow for roundabouts.
Few minutes later, blue lights in my mirrors and got stopped for either "driving like I am on a track" or "driving like a tt". Either way, I got sent on my way but they did tell me to put my front number plate back on (it fell off earlier Mr Policeman).
So now, given I like to "drive like I am on a track" on occasion, I leave the plate on as there is less reason to be stopped..
A full sized plate on an Elise or Seven does look st though, I totally agree. I may go for a short plate and perhaps stick on.

But normal front number plates are so boooooring!
I didn't put the sticky plate on the TVR but I do think that the design doesn't lend itself to a full size plastic one. Personally number plates don't bother me, apart from when there's no clear reason other than 'scene'. Anything with a gaping number plate recess on the bumper but the plate in the window looks gash.
Before the brigade turn up, yes I am aware that they look terrible, will never pass an MOT, that one day I will get pulled over and fined fifty bajillion pounds, and that I am a fine dodging scumbag.
Does anyone really give a st?
Stick-on plates are perfectly legal if they have a retro-reflective surface and conform to the relevant dimensional requirements.I didn't put the sticky plate on the TVR but I do think that the design doesn't lend itself to a full size plastic one. I've been "missing" my front number plate for (IIRC) 5 years now. I've never had an issue with the Police and I simply pop one back on for the MOT.
I really don't see a problem with it as motorbikes would have to have them if they were that crucial. I do still respect front-facing cameras.
The only issues I've had have been the odd petrol station attendant who seems to take it as an insult, and occasional members of public that like to give me a lecture.
The reason for me is also that it looks good. I understand why some are calling it vanity, but I've done it because I prefer how it looks to my own eyes.
Most people wouldn't buy a car that they thought was ugly, so I guess they could be accused of being vain too.

Years ago when I owned an R300 Caterham I occasionally used to drive it to work in good weather and over the course of a few trips there managed to scrape and damage the bottom of the standard sized plate on the ridiculously high road humps fitted on that estate due to the way it was fitted hanging lower than the nose cone.Few minutes later, blue lights in my mirrors and got stopped for either "driving like I am on a track" or "driving like a tt". Eventually I could see it either cracking off or damaging the cone itself so decided to remove it and put a stick on plate on the top of the cone instead. Never had any issues with the Police with that type of plate fitted for the rest of the time I had the car.

So, in the unlucky event that one of you rebels without anything on the front gets caught on a slow day, or a roadside check - what justification will you give on the spot to avoid the legitimate and published penalty ?
Just pay. Small beer for a well endowed, big hitting Company Director. dibblecorse said:
Wow, what a rebel .... bet you have done some right naughty stuff in your past to have the nads to flaunt the law in such a way, whens Danny Dyer next round for dinner ???
I stumbled upon one of Danny's Real Football Factories shows the other week. I thought it was a laugh years ago, even more so now.
"Proper naughty", "what's the nautiest thing that your firm got up to?"...etc etc.

I’ll say I’m very, very sorry. Then talk about cars for a bit, maybe pay a fine.No small animals will be harmed.

The law in this country is to have a front number plate on your car. I presume you knew this when you took your driving test.
So if you have now decided that this law doesn't apply to you, please surrender your driving licence.
The sanctimony is strong in this one....So if you have now decided that this law doesn't apply to you, please surrender your driving licence.
