It's a dirty, smokey old diesel. Give it another couple of years and it will be killing babies and grannies everywhere it goes spewing out its vile filth.
Why do people even give you the time of day? You're not intelligent enough to give a normal reason for your dislike of BMW's, you're not funny enough to be a troll, you're literally just a nuisance.

Not that it matters, but....Very similar one with those miles was on the British Car Auctions website not long since. Could well be the same car, there aren't many about...

As a fan of the (Alpina) brand, I have to agree. A 335d of the same vintage but with less miles & X-drive can be had for about £20k. Less BHP admittedly, but would you notice?
But the 335d won't ride or drive as well or feel as special, you could also buy a newer lower mileage 330d if you want something that can give you close to M3 levels of performance & good economy when you're not indulging in the performance, then this is your car,

In answer to the last question yes you would notice the performance differential you really notice the ride & steering feel as well as the interior being a nicer place to be, so in my bias (as an owner of a D3) opinion it's worth the money if you want something a bit special, if you don't then you'll buy something else.

Are the gearboxes different on these?

I heard somewhere that BMW don’t sell a power kit for the 335d’s. That can only tell you one thing, that gearbox can’t handle all that torque so they don’t want to be liable if it goes bang. Anybody have any information on this? 516lbft is a lot, more than a F10 M5 for that matter!

£26k for a diesel that's done 86,000 miles?! I know it's an Alpina, but really?
Quite.

He makes a point. Literally all diesels operate the same way - that's why hundreds of thousands of them are sat in fields. Some use magic trickery like ad-blue, but I dont think this does, does it?

The amount of "modern" diesels I see spewing smog is incredible - all of them, without question will start smoking. Usually the DPF cycle dumps the soot on the motorway as well.

I had one - so I know.

Yes the 50 mpg and incredible paper performance really is hard to argue with - but it is what it is.

Not arguing for a second about diesel, never really liked them, wouldn't ever want to buy a used one either, not a modern one anyway. I just don't like him either, spends all his time trolling BMW threads.

I’m a lucky owner of an F31 D3, and for me, it’s all the car I could wish for.
Very comfy, epic acceleration when needed, subtle looking, and you can even turn up at cars and coffee meets and fit in by having something different.
Brilliant cars!

It’s a lovely car, just a shame that for some reason BMW have decided that terrible panel gaps are acceptable.

Compare an F31 to an E30/36/46. I’ve fitted Korean aftermarket front wings to E46s with better panel gaps than a new F30/1.

This is why they hold their value I guess...very rare, seldom for sale, ticks most boxes and is far classier than any M-car.

I thought £26k was a bargain, regardless of the milage! Funny how people who have never driven one can comment on their value for money compared to other dissimilar BMW's.

Alpinas do hold their value but always sell for full retail price whereas the equivalent BMW can be discounted heavily at times. I had an earlier B3S convertible and all I could negotiate was a few options no money off whatsoever.

The D3 has the ZF 8HP70, the same as the 335d. By ZF logic the 70 stands for 700Nm = 516lbft

A 335D can be had for £31,000, still in the wrapper, according to the deals I pulled up on Carwow in December. I'd probably spend the extra for the new, warrantied car

I'd absolutely love a D3 BiTurbo touring, it would literally be all the car I'd ever need...

Unfortunately most seem to be poverty spec and the odd couple that have a decent spec are out of my price range so they're going to remain a pipedream for a little while longer!
