RE: Alpine GTA/A610: PH Used Buying Guide
Discussion
Best join in I guess. Here's mine. Owned since 1995, 200K miles now and obviously had significant work done the last few years but uprated by RATS and running a very healthy power output as a result.
GAZ suspension, Azev wheels, stainless water pipes, and a few other bits and bobs. Looking moody and doing its Skyfall bit on the Ashdown Forest.
Sold mine couple of years ago. Parts can be tricky, fuel gauges are particularly flakey.
Fun to drive,.
Article forgets to mention that you have to watch for rust in the steel chassis which is bonded into the body and tricky to access.
If any one is after one, I have a slightly damaged err light and a collection of relays specific to the Alpine

Amazing cars. Had mine over 10 years and it has done 131,000 miles. Engine has never been apart. Considering what other cars of a similar age and rarity are selling for, these are still a bargain although I suspect we will soon see them at £50k plus. The sad thing about the price rise on many classic cars is that they become too valuable, investments and nobody actually uses them anymore. :-(

Warts and all here but still one of the most underated '80s classics. I have a recently purchased Black Turbo due in next week for light resto then will be for sale.Getting harder and harder to find even in poor condition so be quick if you are in the market for one.

Amazing cars;
Originally purchased my '87 Turbo in 1994 and became instantly addicted! I've driven a few different cars over the years but the steering and feedback of the GTA is still up there with the best I've ever experienced. When I sold it in 2003 I always knew I'd have another one day, its the only car which I genuinely missed and struggled to live without! Then in 2011 I found my old car listed on the web and managed to get the old thing back. Now it's undergoing a full nut 'n' bolt rebuild, albeit rather slowly! I should have the engine & subframe back in it this summer before starting to rebuild the front end.
Will it cost me more than it's market value? Undoubtably!
Do I care? Not at all!
Will it be worth it? No question, it's totally under my skin and part of my life!
For sure they aren't perfect, and have flaws. Thats all part of the experience. As mentioned some parts are tricky, but on the flip side there are many parts shared with Reno's of that era as well. Injection wiring loom connectors are iffy, I changed them all back in the 90's during my first ownership with more popular 'Amp' type multi-pin connectors which cured all of the intermittent running problems. I've just replaced them all with the same 'Amp' type again, just the be thorough.
I also found mine to be quite sensitive to the tyres fitted, it always felt most at home on the old Yoko AVS (probably a reflection of how communitive the chassis is). Will probably be opting for Toyo during the rebuild as the old AVS are history these days.
If you're thinking about ownership I'd act soon before the values start to reflect just how fabulous these overlooked cars really are.

Keeping it Alpine ...A610 Turbines on converted hubs.Offsets etc all work just fine and on RATS AVO dampers to get it low.
Simple enough conversion allowing bigger brakes which is a must for any track use.
Thanks for the reply.Simple enough conversion allowing bigger brakes which is a must for any track use.
I should have sussed it, but they look completely different without the centre cap
They have a hint of OZ motorsport about them.
What pcd is the 5 stud conversion?
That's my A610 for sale in classifieds.
Very reluctant sale but I have my eye on another Alpine project.
The clutch has started to slip so it's booked in with RATS next month for replacement and rear subframe refurb.
Great cars and the GTA is still the junior supercar bargain if you can find one for sale.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, do any of you owners/ex-owners know anything about this car?

I'd be very grateful for any info!
