Just to bolster your argument:

Elegant and capacious estate car for big shops and tip runs?

Got one!

Elegant? If ever there was a body that needed a longer wheelbase...

I made my choice based not so much on the great cars, but on the bad ones. If i had to drive one car from each marque every day and the car was to be a surprise every morning (i made this rule myself to make it more interesting) then i wouldn't want to open my front door to see an Alfa Romeo Arna or early Alfa 6 waiting for me. Most manufacturers have at least one car that i can't stand or wouldn't want to be seen in, and some of the obvious ones have had whole era's that don't appeal to me; pre-250 Ferrari's, post-2010 Lamborghini's for example. There should also be vehicles in the range that are practical too so that means Pagani, Bugatti, Isdera and Cizeta are out.
I'm not going to go through the whole process citing why others aren't good enough, i only managed to come up with one manufacturer who, if they left a random car from their entire range history on my drive, i'd never be disappointed or disgusted: Maserati.
They've rarely been "dream" cars for me but they've not made a car which i wouldn't be happy to drive.

The high's:

Amazing!

The "low"'s:

Less amazing, but still amazing!

Everything in between these sets are also mouthwatering prospects.
