Job done. Bring on the zombie invasion
Make sure you get the real one (200 series) with the v8 diesel, not the Prado this article is about.
You need that 650 Nm of torque when plowing through zombie hordes.

I think the 700mm corpse wading depth is for the 200, not Prado.

And most importantly for UK use, you can drive straight over the other mums and kids, crash through the school gates, and drop your precious children right at the classroom door.

think that's little far fetched , the ones round here seem to have RR sports Amerocks and C classes and lots of transit customs...

No mention of steering or handling in the review. Bit of an omission, no?

Not if you'd rather drive over or through things than around them.

I'd have one, if the local authority would make up their mind about their muted upcoming diesel charges/ban project. I like the functionality for snow and Lake District hiking/mountain biking trips, and the relative absence of image and bling. Have had a Toyota (Corolla Verso D4D) 10.5 years from brand new, has cost me £150 in repair parts in total, both fitted in minutes by me. easy to service too, do it on the drive.

I know all car experiences are subjective and tales anecdotal, but in that 10.5 years of Toyota no hassle ownership we also had a number of VAG/VW Group cars of which, 1 was delivered new with faulty ABS, a gearbox that wouldn't engage 2nd when warm, and the rear doors leaked in. It had about £2,500 of warranty work done on it. The next had a faulty fuel gauge and left me stranded on the M62, the one after that (company car) was taken back as the 'driver assist' system kept doing random emergency stops for no reason, and the current one (another company car) has a panoramic sunroof that has never worked properly despite 3 years of the dealer doing Skoda's increasingly pointless and bizarre suggestions.

If I wanted a tough 4x4 I would take this over the usual offerings.

Have you seen the latest landrover offerings ?? fine if you like you want something that looks
like an Audi estate thats eaten all the pies ,
The Toyota at least looks like a 4x4, wheel at each corner , square boxy and upright
it looks tough not frumpy like a generic school run SUV ...

where is this one coming from? Did I say anything about comparing it to other cars?

All I said (almost directly) - first facelift was horrendously ugly.

This one (second facelift) looks good

It does sound like a lorry but can be taken well over 200hp.

Bit of experience with this unit...

Bought the D3 new at the beginning of 08. Nine enjoyable years later time to replace... SWMBO wanted the Land Cruiser (Prado).

The new Prado is great and SWMBO loves it. In comparison to the D3 it is newer and with double the size fuel tank, plus diesel vs petrol, refueling stops are much less frequent! The Prado doesn't as good a turning circle as the D3 but that is the only downside from wife's perspective.

From my perspective the 2008 D3 is a more advanced and better design than the 2017 Prado... equally they cost the exactly the same so it isn't surprising as the Prado is technically the less expensive vehicle.

I also have a 2017 Prado at work where it spends 60% of its time off road and as a typical Toyota 4x4 it is pretty bulletproof.

As a car nut, and particularly British cars, I prefer the Land Rover - but I certainly also appreciate the Toyota.

It's a real shame about the engine. A car this size needs more, both off road and on.
