Do you think 26mpg is low ?
It’s all relative - I don’t think I’ve ever seen 26mpg in the GT-R. But in a daily driver it would be nice if it started with a 3.. I guess if I drove at 56mph it would be a different story. I was just confirming that real world the Golf R and STi fuel consumption isn’t that different.

The elephant in the room is that 2.5 engine that they’ve persisted with since 2007, despite all the head gasket and ringland failures. That’s what killed it for the enthusiasts - it’s just that the unsuspecting, non anorak public still bought them over the years unawares, but in ever decreasing numbers.
I have a ‘93 and an ‘06 Impreza (both imports) but I wouldn’t touch a UK one post ‘07 with a barge pole I’m afraid.
What's wrong in 2.5 engine? Genuine question.I have a ‘93 and an ‘06 Impreza (both imports) but I wouldn’t touch a UK one post ‘07 with a barge pole I’m afraid.

Not an issue on latest STi
It's not dead, its just the UK importer has decided to stop importing that model. If you still want one, buy a JDM spec car and import it yourself.
I'm on my 4th Impreza, the last 3 have been JDM STi models, great cars.
I first decided to buy an Impreza when i was spectating on the RAC rally in my RWD Sapphire Cosworth that had a nice 360BHP conversion, i was involved in a rally team that ran Sapphire Cosworths and Escort Cosworths and used to drive the chase car, i was a bit of a ford freak having a Mk2 Escort as my first car, the car previous to my cossie was a 2.9 XR4X4. I was a pretty tidy driver, so the cossie was not often seen tootling about between stages.
On a wet road somewhere in the middle of Wales during the rally i wasn't hanging about but saw a car in the mirrors catching rapidly, it caught up onto my boot, then overtook and proceeded to bugger off at a rather rapid rate. I couldn't keep up. End of debate, i had to have one.
My first Impreza i got as a company car, i had a set budget and was told i could buy any car so long as it was under 6 months old and 6000 miles. I think they were sick of my fuel costs as i used the cossie for work trips and put 100K miles on it. I found an Impreza Sport that was £5 under budget and ran that for a couple of years, a very underrated car. Company policy changed and i could get an allowance towards my own car, so i bought the Impreza Sport off the company and ran it for a while longer whilst i looked to buy a Turbo version.
I very nearly bought a UK turbo, but on the trip to view it, which was a long drive, i got a call to tell me the car had sold, despite being told they would hold it for me until i got there, i was properly pissed off and turned back. That turned out to be the best thing ever as i soon found another car that looked a good option, a WRX STi5 Type RA Limited owned by a company director that used it rarely, it was mint underneath 3 years of grime. That started my experience of the JDM models.
My enthusiasm for the marque has taken me all over the world and has seen me competing in snow rallies in Canada, driving in Time Attack as well as helping run the car in Japan at Tsukuba, I used to almost live at the Nurburgring driving the car there fortnightly, I've won sprint championships with my current JDM STi and have taken it to 114K miles as a daily driver.
In the time I've owned Impreza's i've seen them rise from the 300BHP absolute limit ever possible chocolate engined rhetoric into 500BHP daily drivers like mine, onto the 700BHP+ Time attack cars, or even the 1200BHP 6 cylinder World Time Attack car of Andy Forrest.
There aren't many marques out there that had the enthusiast community and all round practicality of this car, it's a shame to see it go as a mainstream option.

Great car, love my 2017 STi.
Did the Golf R, left me cold, zero personality but ultra efficient. A car to admire but not to fall in love with.
Shame the STi time has come. Will keep mine for a long time, they don't make cars like this anymore.

The Golf R is undoubtedly capable and an impressive all-rounder but I never warmed to mine in the 2 years I had it and wasn’t that bothered when it went.
By comparison, a few years ago, I had an old (‘93?)WRX Impreza followed by a JDM Blob-eye STi, neither of which were perfect but SO much more fun to drive and felt a bit special (in a good way ) every time and I kinda wish I had kept them.
However, I now have an old W reg Forester STurbo and an 04 Forester STi which are quite different to each other but are both absolutely brilliant fun.
It’s a shame that Subaru no longer seem to value the customer base which they managed to accumulate from the glory days of rallying back in the day. The current range is definitely lacking any reflection from that halo effect...

Two owners there also had the replacement engine blow! There's also at least a couple of PHers with new STIs that posted about the engine blowing.I like Imprezas, but the stock 2.5 STI engine is a turd.

New Merc A class outed today. AMG will be selling their Predator version which is a funky name for something more at home looking inconspicuousness outside TopsTiles.
Lets hope they can change "Hey Mercedes" which gets rather repetitive and makes you sound like a cock after a while
https://youtu.be/Tk5IQD4DcHA?t=555
to
"Hey AMG" at least. Or perhaps "BANZAI mode on" , in reference to those great japanese cars. I'm guessing not. Perhaps it can be remapped though so it could?
