We've got an pre facelift ST3 Estate as a family wagon, I'm not really a Ford man but it's been an excellent allrounder. Bought it about a year old with a few options for £16.5k and it's been a fun, reliable, cheap(ish) car to own.

Remap to around 275bhp (although 154mph standard!) leather heated Recaros, enough room for big dog and a genuinely a nice place to be. A bit plasticy compared to the VAG stuff but that's expected for the money. If they did an AWD or RS version I'd put my name down on one tomorrow. It torque steers quite bad but you just need to adjust your driving to suit and feather the throttle accordingly rather than plant it. Being quite stealthy (mines black not bright orange) it also surprises a few more powerful cars as well. Not many cars' have Aventador style exhausts either lol..

Pup loves it..

How bizarre.

I only started a thread about these yesterday.

Granted I was more interested in the diesel version but.... valid input happily accepted!

Ordinarily I'd agree, but 30k a year is probably not advisable in one. I struggle to get much more than 25mpg no matter how gently I try and drive mine. 30mpg+ on a run is realistic, but I've never seen anything like the officially claimed 41mpg.

To be honest. I agree. Ours sees 30mpg at 70

That's pretty poor. I get better out of the 2.5T Mondeo Estate.

It's astounding really, but not uncommon. Fortunately I don't use it for commuting, and expect to cover around 4k miles a year so it's not an issue.

Heres my ST3 which is probably the best all round car Ive owned. Sounds quite good for a 4pot motor and I get around 30 mpg on my commute which I'm quite happy with. The seats are sublime, and it's quite a comfortable long range cruiser.

Still feel as though ford failed with this ST... The MK2 volvo 5 pot still sound far superior than these 5 pots. And as mentioned above, if it was 4wd it'd be awesome. And seen as though I own an S60R (so very biased) I'd stick to a V70R and save myself 7k...

The MK3 is a 4 pot. The RS has 4 wheel drive.

Been close to buying one several times, that front nose styling and star wars rear exhaust never gelled with me though so that didn't help. Would have been annoyed at that slight drinking problem too. I didnt like the steering feel out of corners. Had the regular Focus estate with the aero package, looked miles better imho and still handled like a dream.

Now have the Leon ST cupra, av 30mpg, 37mg long run, 590l boot scores big points for family duty, lighter - like for like equipment the Seat is about 100kg less. Real slippy diff. Not as playful handling though, fixed that with a stiffer rear arb. Definitely worth considering if you can spend a bit more. Oh, very tunable engine too, mine runs 370hp/430Nm with almost no peak boost add and a eu6 downpipe, great response.

It's cheap because it's yellow, and very few people like the yellow.

There's the Octavia vRS Estate (which is less fun to drive)
Interestingly, I drove the two almost back-to-back. There's barely anything in it when it comes to fun, and the Octavia's a nicer place to sit, with fewer cheap-looking bits.
That, and the Octavia has a much larger boot.
(Guess which one I bought?)

It's surprising how 18 months on, prices are pretty much the same as they were then.

How about this for an alternative 2017 Vauxhaul Insignia VXR estate only one on PH but £22k for a basically new car with better performance than this Ford

It might have 70hp more or so, but in real life will be 400 to 500kg heavier which kind of negates the idea of better performance...

Rare? There's 7 of these things round the corner to my work. 3 are hatches.

Good cars for what they are but if I wanted a cheap fast wagon for 25 bags, I'd buy an B7/8 S4/RS4

Yes the Leon ST Cupra is available from about £14.5k for the earliest ones, so they are only a little bit more, and for me as much as I do like the Focus ST Estate the Cupra is just the better proposition.

I might well have one of these if the dealership experience hadn't been so lousy. I don't have any faith in the likely after-sales care when the sales team can't even be bothered before they have your money!

Great car though, and the estate is much better looking than the hatch IMHO.

This morning. It was red, too.
