Thought the ST petrol estate was 4 cylinder ?
Correct, they didn't do the 5 cylinder in an estate.

Mondeo Estate only. An ST in all but name (trying to follow anything in the HBOL is frustrating as it's all different to the cooking models).

True. I meant Focus estate (given the thread). Was the 2.5 in the Mondeo a manual?

I looked at the later 2.0 ecoboost Mondeos and it appeared to only be available as an auto.

From a size perspective I would have preferred to go for an ST Mondeo (if there had been a later version)

To be honest. I agree. Ours sees 30mpg at 70
Sounds broken. I get 40mpg at 70 from a Mondeo with the same engine.

The 2.5T was only available as a manual.

The 2.0T was auto only and despite more power was slower. Probably a combination of gearbox and the way it makes its power.

I don't know why it wasn't badged as an ST in the UK. Australia have the Focus ST badged as the XR5T, and the Mondeo 2.5T there got the same XR5T badge.

It's obviously slower and more of a cruiser than the Focus as it carries significant extra weight.

Maybe the stink of the Mk3 Mondeo STD...iesel stuck. Or maybe just because unlike the older ST's where there were significant suspension changes (different arms etc) as well as power and brakes etc there weren't so it wasn't really that different.

On a side note as the newer Mondeo is auto only I have zero interest in one...and the Focus ST Estate you can't tow with. So that's out.

Don't know what to replace it with. Current thinking is run it until it dies and hope something interesting appears (or wait until EV's get enough range. )

I believe the new Focus is coming 2018? potentially that might be an option, I guess we won't see the ST version of it till 2019 though.
