0-60 in 5 seconds?

Yes, chinny reckon. Another road test says closer to 7s. 300bhp in a car weighing 1900kg isn't going to set the world on fire.m
They do 60 in 5s.
I had one, a number of years back.
Remapped, with a manual gearbox, and it felt every single bit a low-5s car. An early, auto V70 yea, probably not so much.
This car would be absolutely the last place I would spend that money. It will be totally broken in every way - the Rs had plenty of fragility, and this one very clearly has not had it easy. As a result it will be nasty to drive and expensive to keep working.
As spares, or to soup-up a nice T5 (add yourself the Xenons, big brakes etc), OK. As a car to use, not something I'd want.

I always thought these were a straight 6, but you learn something new every day.
I like the under cover motorway cop black paint work - shame that it seems to be too cheap to be anything but a breaker or a money pit. Plus the back support on the driver's seat suggests how well its been used, as Volvo reputedly have the best seats in the business for comfort as well as safety.
I agree that the absence of photos of the damage mentioned in the advert triggers alarm bells.

Yes, that should have disqualified it https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
A S60R for this money. It must be a miler (check), no ticket (almost check), and need money spending on it (check check check). I like these, especially in the metallic turquoise, which this one of course isn't. The S60's were a lovely place to be - I drove a 2.5T over a decade ago, but didn't take the leap - I either bought a Passat V5 or a 156 2.4 JTD instead - I honestly can't remember. I remember the S60 being a bit underpowered, but it was an auto, so maybe that explains it.
Great that this week's shed (and it is a shed, no doubt about it) is from a private seller, but one with no access to a hosepipe or a sponge.
After weeks of moaning about SOTW I'm finally happy. It won't last long.

I believe, if the owners groups are true, this sold at least a week ago and possibly to Russia but that perhaps should be taken with a pinch of salt!
However...
For £1250.00 it's a no brainer if you're of the 'right' mentality, ie buy it and run it to the MOT and if it a) survives that long and b) passes with minimal cost then keep driving and simply not caring until something hugely expensive and terminal happens... which would be no issue to the "right" buyer because the value of the parts in that thing is vast.
Brembo calipers are £500+
18" R alloys can fetch £500+
Front bumper is £250+
Headlights can be £150+ a piece...
I could go on and on but you have the engine, even if it cracked a liner there's the turbo, inlet manifold, sensors, coolers, rear diff, rransfer box, the many many complex and expensive electrical control units, the interior and even the 4C shocks would sell if used but in serviceable condition.
So yes, whoever bought this for £1250 or less got an absolute bargain and if broken up for spares and sold cleverly, they stand to make a rather agreeable return on investment and if the car turns out to be an ok one and let's be honest, it make be mechanically ok but just unloved cosmetically.... then run it till it dies or tidy it and flip it on for profit.
Either way, £1250 is a very safe buy... granted if you're not in the know, ie the type who'd take it to Volvo for all the work and you've never had oily fingernails then it's not for you as the bills these can generate are truly eye watering but for an anorak or a breaker, that is the bloody bargain of the century and I'm sat here utterly devastated that I never saw this sooner and had the bank transfer done before he'd even had time to hit submit on the advert!
Certainly not a shed to drive in the sense it'll soldier on till hell freezes over but then again, why not? Just because it's rough, unloved and cheap doesn't automatically mean it's a complete bucket... sometimes people just buy cars, drive them and generally don't care for what it is or perhaps aren't even aware... then when it's time is done, just sell on as an old Volvo. Same as the chap who sold the 2003 RS6 in superb condition aside for a small oil weep from the gearbox.... for £800.
Away now to cry myself to sleep over a missed opportunity.

Ok, i really need to ask this: why are used cars so cheap in the UK?
The cheapest S60 R on mobile.de costs 5900€ (5240 GBP) and the next one ist 8900€!
We live in such a disposable society, and there is a huge amount of pressure on some people to be seen in the newest and latest model of anything. The cheapest S60 R on mobile.de costs 5900€ (5240 GBP) and the next one ist 8900€!
Couple that with extensive fleet vehicles that companies replace every 3 years, and company car policies which tell people they can only drive something which is under 3/5/10 years old, means anything outside those brackets quickly becomes devalued.

Interesting shed, didn't even know these existed. This one looks well past its sell by date though. How on earth do you crack the glass on in front of the speedo?
Many brave pills required to buy this
V70 and v60 of this era were notorious for the clock unit failing. So it's probably been out and back in, maybe more than once, and someone's been a bit thuggish. Many brave pills required to buy this
Would not buy anyway. Looks rough as aholes!

Loved my S60. Easily the best built, most refined, and most comfortable car I've ever owned. It just felt unbreakable.
I would have another in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't gamble on this particular one. There is a huge choice of straight, clean, lesser model S60s out there at this money. If you are prepared to slum it with a 2.0T, you can get a really nice, sub 100k example with a full history and a fresh MOT for under £1500. Still has the lovely sounding 5 pot, and still does 60 in 8 secs, and a genuine 140 mph.
They aren't a "sporty" car, even with 250-300 bhp. A mate has a 2.0T and it suits the car really well. Useable ones are everywhere from £700 upwards, and nice ones seem to start at just over a grand.
