A bit of a boring topic I know but earlier I got overtaken by a 60 plate marked up e90 on the M4, he was doing about 120mph as he passed with his blues and twos on, it was also a saloon (with black wheels!) rather than your usual touring. I put the reg number into the mot history check as I was curious as to what sort of mileage it had on it and interestingly it came back as never being moted? Do they mot the cars themselves and not put it on the official database?
I was under the impression that traffic cars are replaced by the time they get to about five years old?

Odd timing as a 60 plate undercover car went past in the opposite direction as I was heading home on the A650 just now; I pondered the same thing for a moment.

On the MOT, I believe they're a bit black ops on that front and not required to get MOTs (or something like that) due to their fastidious maintenance and unwillingness to mix with the underclasses.

I was passed by Vauxhall Vesta estate yesterday, with the blues and twos on!
Didn’t catch the registration but a Vectra has to be a fair old age now ??

I'm sure I saw a thread on here with Kent Police or The Met having some ancient Land Rovers that were kept in reserve.

There's some unmarked 60/61 cars around here. I also remember hearing what's quoted above, either 3 or 5 years or whatever. Probably one of those urban myths you pick up from your pals when you've just passed your test and trying to work out whether it's a good idea to race a shiny new looking bmw in your 1.1 rotbox.

T4 VW camper/Van Police car in Cheshire over Xmas.
So around 20 years old.

I did a complete double take at the state of the thing and choice of vehicle, it had 2 uniformed officers in the front and appeared legit.

A 2008 5 series; fully marked up but not in the modern livery, more orange and yellow markings. Huge blue light bar (ala The Bill circa 1995) on the roof as well.

Some of these unmarked cars may be running personalised registrations to help the disguise. Locally the traffic cops have a BMW on an LC11 *** reg when it is actually a 2013 car.

I saw an unmarked 08 Volvo yesterday, on a shout following a slightly newer liveried V70.

Thought it was strange because it was a white estate. I couldn't work out if it was a clever double bluff or they'd just run out of stickers mid credit-crunch!

When I was last in looe (cornwall) I was surprised to see a very early 2000s reg ford people carrier (Galaxy?) All marked up. I put it down to it being a relatively poor area and low budgets.

62 plate silver unmarked volvo saloon on the M40 in January.

A road everyone makes progress on with traffic flow at circa 85-90.

Came up behind him and although I'm always on the look out for debadged 3 series estates , Audis and VRSs was a bit wary because of his lane discipline (overtook then pulled straight bacl into lane 1) then thought at 62 it's too old.

Overtook him and pulled in front then had to slow for a couple of trucks. He pulled put to overtake and I followed ..as I got ready to overtake him again the parcel shelf sign shot up with police slow came up and the blues came on.

Suitably chastened I dropped back and eventually he shot off.

Kudos to the driver though, a few cars passed him at 85 and he did nothing as they weren't tailgating or driving aggresively. I guess if you were nicking everyone at over 70 that would be pretty much everyone

Winsford? I see one now and again, have seen it since it was fairly new. 02 plate. I saw it about a year ago with rotten arches but more recently it had been sorted. Never known of a police vehicle needing a rust repair before biggrin

I'm sure the reg is DG02STX or similar.
