Mercedes fell into the trap of circular design late and made a horrendous mish-mash of shapes. Not only is the W210 the ugliest E-Class ever, it was the worst built with accountants taking stage and the infamous rust issues. Mercedes have crossed from conservative to market led designs but the current glizty designs are way better than the W210.

Just seen the new polo, and boy, what an overdesigned, flabby mess vw have created.

Compared to the old one, it's a huge step back.
They look exactly the same.
Yep. New tumble drier.

You should have seen the bhing on here when the Sagaris came out.
When it came out it looked like a Halfords special hehe

Considering how different the Tuscan looked next to anything else at the time, I remember back in 2005 when my dad parked the one he was selling next to the Sag he was buying. It made the Tuscan look pretty ordinary.

The Audi Q2 is one of the most repulsive designs on sale. Horrible.

The new bmw x2 looks just as bad.And I am waiting for mercedes to come up with their own version of an entry level ugly crossover.

It looks like it was designed in the mid eighties

My point was that the new Griff is getting a similar slagging at the moment; but sometimes you have to let a new design be seen around and about the place before you get a feel for it.

I'm struggling with the size of it, especially the width. The Q2 looks wider than the Q3 and Q5. What does that bode for the next gen Q3 & Q5? Will the Q7 be 2 lanes wide?

As much as I love TVR I'm pretty sure I'm not alone with this one. From this:

Problem is you are comparing one of the most dramatically styled TVR's with the new one. TVRs were mostly clean, simple designs, they didn't have all the louvres and wings although I did prefer them that way. This is why the new looks cleaner and simpler in looks.

Granada' s were king for a long time. When BMW launched the stunning and capable e34, Ford were killing the Granada. What were they thinking of...

Can't see the issue with the new Polo, looks just as good as the earlier one.

If we're talking all new models rather than just bodged facelifts, then I'd say that Ford still hold the crown for the retrograde step from MK1 Focus to MK2, then they did it again with the MK3 which was at least distinctive but very disjointed...

It's particularly strange as when Ford do a facelift they do at least tend to improve things-

Ground breaking-

(especially ground breaking when you look at what else was on offer in 1998)

Neat tidy up-

Boring blob-

Marginally better but still not as good as the MK1-

Is this clean enough:

This makes the new one look 10 years old already.

One of the best car designs ever. If it was in left hand drive, and had an engine that was fairly common instead of an in-house timebomb, I'd have one in a heartbeat.

I think that distinct drop off the cliff of Granada design coincided with Ford HQ's decision to make World Cars. All that Ford Europe could then do was to try to polish whatever turd fell out of the back of Ford US (got carried away with that metaphor hehe)

Never been the same IMHO.

Original Range Rover to the P38A.

From something that was an automotive style icon to something that looked like Chrysler Europe would have designed in the late 1970s. Front grille, headlights indicators and tail lights always remind me of a Horizon.
