Indeed. The 306 was so right that Peugeot really struggled to facelift it without ruining it. In fact I can't think of an equally subtle Facelift ever, other than the MK1 Focus's. Another inherently right design.

The Audi Q2 is one of the most repulsive designs on sale. Horrible.

The new bmw x2 looks just as bad.And I am waiting for mercedes to come up with their own version of an entry level ugly crossover.
I'm struggling with the size of it, especially the width. The Q2 looks wider than the Q3 and Q5. What does that bode for the next gen Q3 & Q5? Will the Q7 be 2 lanes wide?
I saw one of those for the first time last week and I genuinely thought someone had dented the rear door. Then I noticed the front door! Two random triangles in the swage line for the sake of...?

I also saw a Q2 last week for first time. For some reason it had an oversized rear number plate, just regular shaped but oversized.

Actually, it's an exploitation of the heartfelt love people had for the original. Brands are symbols burnt on cattle.

What about the actual "miss-step" ? The Sneeze line as I refer to it, those times in school when you would draw a line with a rule, and you'd sneeze, or someone would knock your arm because it was (and still is) funny.
BMW i3 got to the rear door, sneezed.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe, rear quarter, sneezed.

Vauxhall Meriva, got to the rear door and sneezed

Disco 5, its still a rear door sneeze, but number plate recess

It's more annoying than the Vauxhall Agila/Suzuki Wagon R which has two number plate recesses on it

Even the Mr Bean one is cute.

Number 2 has the face of a sad clown.

Number 3 has gone full fat ugly guppy fish.

That's before we get onto all the hideous additional versions they've made. In their defence they are far from unique because Fiat have done the same with the 500.

I get you, but I hadn't. I agree, the original incarnation was the purest design. This said, the Anniversary followed the generation I pictured. I was convinced that if I posted the original it would have taken some one about 16 seconds to pipe up that it hadn't succeeded it.

The 308 is even worse. So bad I'm not even going to post a photo.

The modern 3 door Mini looks great, had to move on from the original matchbox sized car. The Countryman is disgusting though and not worthy of the badge imo.

Agree with the 2018 Fiesta suggestion, so dull.

With regards to the X350/8 headlights, I can't say I agree, the size diference is not an issue to me.

Called that as you want to cross over to the other side of the road to get away from it

Reminds me of when I’d draw a lovely straight line with a ruler, only to have a bump where one of my fingers holding the ruler was overhanging the edge.

Happened more often than I’d like to admit.

Does the 205 count as a subtle facelift? Clear indicator lights and the painted rear panel?

Good call. Good designs can only ever be marginally improved/ modernised. The Focus MK1 was about as minor as that, IIRC all they did is move the front indicators from the bumper to the bottom right corner of the headlights?

People have been cleverly pointing out that the new mini is bigger than the original for 17 years now! That’s half my lifetime!
Ha ha ha. Its like a shock that new cars are bigger than old ones. Next they will be telling us that they also weigh more.

Changed the sills as well, they were made less chunky, and became body coloured metal instead of grey plastic (which was shocking when you consider that even the Ghia couldn't be had with body colour at the time)

I have a theory that Ford always leave something not quite right which they can fix with the facelift at a later date. They did it with the MK2 and plenty of black plastic as well. I knew they'd fix that on the facelift, and they did. That said, the MK2 needed much more extensive cosmetic surgery than the MK1.

They weren't facelifts though, they were all-new cars. Not Peugeot's finest years.

The 306-307 admittedly was bad, the interiors to be fair were quite nice on the 307, but the 406 to the 407 was a disgusting mess.

The Americans had a habit of uglyfying cars with the extra bumpers frown
TBF to the Americans, I thought the Countach 25th Anniversary was designed by Horatio Pagani (which still doesn't excuse its godwafulness)

Objection overruled.

OP says face lift or new model. judge
