The fact the F50 pips the Enzo, 288, and F40 in this group test tells you all you need to know about it.

These are one of my favourite supercars, second perhaps only to the Diablo GT. I still have the scale Bburago model I bought in France many moons ago. Somewhere.

One of the main attractions of the F40 for me is its relative lack of size.

The F50, on that basis alone, is relegated to a garage ornament.
The f50 is a lot smaller than people think . It's way smaller than an aventador for example and even smaller than a 488 (when you fold the ears in , lol).
The shape is so over the top it looks gigantic but you are correct , it's not a small car.

I stand corrected, thanks.
Just looked up the width on Wikipedia (I await correction again!) and it's not nearly as bad in relation to the F40 as I thought.
F430 - 1923mm
488 - 1952mm
F40 - 1970mm
F50 - 1986mm

Mate I thought the exact same thing until I parked them together . It's such an extreme design it looks gigantic .

wtdoom - a poster above pretty much asked this question but I'm curious too! Have you upgraded to modern tyres, or do you still keep it on "original" tyres?

They are a very weird shape /size tyre . You don't have much choice.
I've just done the exhausts on mine (hehe) and put the Pirelli on it . They are meant to be better than the tyres I had on mine .
However it's so much fun on a bad tyre , I almost think it would be a bad idea to have the tyres too sticky .
It's got such a lovely chassis , so perdictable and fun .

Given the choice, I'd still want the 288 GTO though

As a road car I preferred my 288 to the 40 , braces for impact and assault

I think it's the only Ferrari I would buy if my numbers come up tonight.

That's fab. Love that yours get some proper use too.

Can only imagine what it's like winding up an f50 through some lanes, enjoy smile

PS - got any exhaust vids?

I know it would be boring if we all agreed, but I'm honestly surprised that anyone thinks it looks awkward/wrong/ugly etc from some angles. I can't see a single thing wrong with the front end, and it looks right from all angles to me. As I said in my previous post, it's just elegant and flowing.

I had a look at some F50 GT images after some of you mentioned it looking better. Doesn't do it for me. The GT does look great, in the way that nearly all GT versions do.....because, racecar.......but it's certainly not an improvement IMO.

I loved the F50 when it was first launched, i can still remember seeing it at Earls Court on a rotating stand in the mid nineties. First production car to use the engine/gearbox as a structural component IIRC. I'd always take the F40 over the F50 given the choice though. The Enzo i wasn't fussed over, i'd kind of grown out of the young boy supercar fascination by that point in time.

I've always been amazed how the F50 has been undervalued / criticized within the F line-up

Styling is matter of taste and I have no problem with that of the F50, however there are a number of areas where it is untouchable / unbeatable:

- atmospheric high reving V12 far more musical than the so-so turbo V8 of the F40.... (as well as having a less kit car interior !!)
- totally UNIQUE structure using the F1 approach of load bearing engine / gearbox that are the link between central tub and rear suspension
( big side effect of vibration / NVF levels coming through to the cockpit... but then that way you can live even more intensely the V12 experience !!)
- removable roof so head in the wind possible... (no other V12 mid engined Ferrari had that until the recent Aperta ..) ... tunnel nearby ?

Totally understand the Evo article's conclusion, which I remeber reading and thinking AT LAST the right outcome !
