You'd have to be absolutely bonkers to pay £20k for that when you can get a Brand New Berlingo for £9,250 (+VAT)

Must say I never liked any of the Berlingos I drove. Found them flimsy and the cabin space very poor. Always found Caddy’s more comfortable and better to drive.

That being said if I was buying new the price difference is significant. Be curious what it’s like when resale and running costs are factored in

I have always had Berlingo's and really like them. The last new one I bought was in 2014 and its had absolutely zero issues and now has 70-80k miles on the clock. Value wise I think it's stil worth about £5k and I only paid £9,500 for it. Remarkable value really at £1,500 a year depreciation.

At £20k list I wouldn't even consider a Caddy, the Berlingo would still get the nod for me even if the Caddy was £15k purely on a "bang for buck" basis. Nothing against VW though, I have a 2014 Transporter too smile

I love a small van with plenty of bhp and I'm sure the interweb would find you one for well under £20k.

Map it, please map it, we won't tell VW bounce
From what I recall from the news VW have a history of doing all the mapping for you.

Is it me or is the sheer amount of Germanic options on all this type of thing (VAG) just mind boggling, I looked at a tiguan on the configurator, and you can damned near pay half as much again for literally hundreds of different options. (maybe it's me coming from a background of 4 or so trim levels and limited options)

Why not just have better specified trim levels.
The higher spec Tiguans still have a much higher standard spec than the other germanic and some jap/korean alternatives and even skoda, audi, seat

Those tailgate struts have got some work to do! I can understand the benefits of shelter from the elements under there, but wouldn't a more tradition van door arrangement have been better?

Nice van though!

Why have VW positioned the gas struts where you can smack your head on them? Why not mount them vertically?

Positioning them further away on the bootlid means that there'll be a greater moment applied as closer they may not be able to lift the bootlid themselves

It looks as though VAG has an "arrangement" with PH whereby a vehicle is loaned in return for some advertising. Sometimes the "arrangement" works well, and you get a Skoda Superb 280 thing, which is very nice. Other times the product is a van. Which is not.
Enjoy!
You old cynic! Truth be told we were struggling to think of a replacement for the Skoda, and a van seemed to make the most sense. While the VW brands are based in the same place, they are separate, and so we started a discussion with them about potentially having a van. They said yes, and here we are. Nothing more to it than that!

Price discrepancy is to do with VAT - we'll sort it soon. Apologies.

Fair enough: I live just down the road from VAG UK and the school run is thick with new VWs (and Audis, Skodas, SEATs) so their corporate sales side is obviously quite active. There's a load of late plate, ex-lease ones around MK too.

I didn't even know you could get a Caddy with a tailgate!

Mine is bigger though ;-) came in useful today though keeping dry.

I had a Caddy with a tailgate.
Bag of ste. Thirsty, slow, uncomfortable and the bulkhead meant the seat wouldn't go far enough back to get comfortable. I regretted not getting an Astravan until I sold the Caddy and made £900 on it (and I thought I had overpaid for it in the first place!)

I’ve had my Caddy a year now, I bought it to replace a Fiesta Sportvan for my business, thankfully Ford have found a brain cell and are bringing the Fiesta van back, which will probably be the next purchase.

The Caddy isn’t bad with the DSG (Dosent Shift Great) and adaptive cruise control it can be relaxing providing you don’t want to press on. but the due to be facelifted Transit Connect will do everything better and it’s going to have similar tech.

My van was apparently being built for the CV show, and after the dealer couldn’t get it in the spec I wanted he found this one and knocked a shedload of cash off. It’s fully loaded.

But my biggest irritation and being apparent petrol heads and enthusiastic drivers, How do you find the nodding dog suspension? It’s bloody uslesless on B roads and undulating A roads.

In fact, I have worn down the mudflaps on the front of the van!
