Elephant in the room, is it any / much better than what appears to be the almost identical GT3?
TX.
It's lighter, faster, more track oriented. Similar, but also most definitely different. I've not driven a 991.2, but I've driven 991.1 GT3 and GT3 RS and the relative nature of those two cars is the same.TX.
As others here say, this is very, very possibly the last ever NA GT 911. Ferrari's comparable product is already turbo.
I hate to say this, but the timing of this coming out at the same time as the 488 Pista makes for an unfortunate comparison.
Both cars are probably equally unavailable — though Ferrari are less corruptible since they don't make Cayennes, Macans etc for the flippers to stock up on to get on the list — and are supposedly competitors.
But, the Ferrari seems thoroughly reworked, more powerful, lighter and more coherent making the Porsche seem like a semblance of bits and add-ons that isn't wildly different from its lesser brethren — all a bit Demon Tweaks in comparison
Like I say, it really pains me to say this and it's a bit academic anyway given the availability of both

Different horses for different courses though (pun partially intended). Generally, if people want a GT3 RS they'll buy one rather than a 488 Pista, and vice versa. They both have their own character, and at this level, it's not really like anyone goes and mulls the decision over, after a comparative back to back test drive! Both cars are probably equally unavailable — though Ferrari are less corruptible since they don't make Cayennes, Macans etc for the flippers to stock up on to get on the list — and are supposedly competitors.

The 911 will be the purer, more honest car for sure. Having spent quite a bit of time as a passenger in a 991.1 RS and a 991.2 GT3, they're lovely cars. Very useable on our roads, incredibly raw and fantastically quick point to point. There's no doubt in my mind, you can have more fun on UK roads in the 911 than the 488 mainly down to the size!

^This. People who actually use their cars on the track, will generally be opting for the Porsche, for a variety of reasons. And this is not to say you'd never see a 458 Speciale at the Nurburgring, but just that there's a whole lot more GT3s, let alone other types of 911.The 911 will be the purer, more honest car for sure. Many Ferrari owners who recently sold 458s are regretting their decision because the 488 is somehow less engaging due to the loss of NA.
ETA: the 458 Pista does look utterly beautiful though.

Fantastic car with pure race car pedigree. Extremely disappointed like many others here that it’s only available to the chosen few with varying degrees of selection criteria applied by OPC. The supply and demand frenzy simply doesn’t exist outside of the Uber-hyped UK market. My money will go to US dealers not caught up on this stupidity. LHD an issue? Not really, car primarily for track days and Euro hoons. Shame on Porsche UK.
This is basically the road legal track (pista) version of the GT3. Very predictable, but probably better then ever nevertheless. I mean, 7:05 is pretty awesome with only 520hp... Comparisons with the Pista seem unavoidable, but I imagine that if you actually put lots of track mileage on one of those, the financial picture will be quite different...
