Would seem odd that the Kuga, the Nissan and the X3's that I've been in seem to ride worse than their car equivalents yet cost more, the X3 was the only one that seemed to have a bigger boot. They are the absolute definition of an appliance, no kid will ever aspire to own a Kadjar, whether it's in 5 years or 25. Cars like the Ford Cortina, Ford Sierra, Peugeot 405, Citroen BX and even the MK1 Mondeo are cars that get collected, I just don't see that being the case with a Qashqai, they're completely dull. As I said, why not buy a hatchback instead of a car that's no more capable but more expensive? If you want a 4x4 then why not buy one that's actually capable, has much more room inside and a better driving position? If you want cargo space then why not buy an estate? Why buy a car that tries to do it all and ends up doing none of it to a high standard?
They're not really collected though. Specific variants like the RS Cosworths? Yes. Also that's pretty irrelevant to the buyer of a new car - no one buys a brand new family car on the basis of what it'll be worth in 30 years time.
No kid will ever aspire to own a Kadjar? No kid aspired to having a Sierra or Mondeo, which apparently you seem to think they did. Remember - most then were just 1.6s and diesels and stuff, even though most remaining are the interesting ones.
We have and Ateca at the moment as the family car and it’s a great car, we also have a mk7.5 golf gti which I use as a daily... combine the 2 and this new cupra Ateca sounds perfect to me!
I for 1 will be getting one when my lease is up... and I don’t care for the lease haters on here as I’m happy with the way I spend my money on cars
I will agree on the badge not being the Best but I bet most normal folk won’t realise when they see these on the road and just assume it’s a SEAT

So essentially, VW’s way of diversifying the platform sharing even more, a sub brand of an existing brand - saves having to buy another manufacturer out.
To buy any of the VAG products, you really have to lack imagination - they’re all dull as hell and everyone on the road seems to have one.

Why is that a problem ? I appreciate that you may need to express your individuality through your choice of car (nothing wrong with that) but as cheap utilitarian family cars they take some beating. It is also entirely possible to own more than one car. One for family transport purposes and one for a more fun / leisure role, which invariably will end up being more specialist / rare. Like a Golf CS for instance or a R8 or a Lambo.

have you had any issues with the Nav not starting up intermittently?
Love "the PH way" in that if a car doesn't suit your individual needs it gets slated on here. The same way everyone is a well build company director etc etc...
Never mind Cupra, it'll be interesting to see what happens to the Seat brand now that presumably all the sporty models have slinked off to Cupra. As has been a allured to, the halo Seats will no longer be Seats so what's left is the (dependable and more than adequate imho) remaining Seats.
Will each Seat dealership now have a swanky dim-lit corner fitted out in garish red leather and an X-box with which to entice the hipster 20-30 somethings who these are aimed at?
I hope it does well - personally I don't share the Seat hatred on here, probably from people who have never been in one.

I would like to hope that if Cupra is to be separate now, FR will become Seats sporty version as opposed to a trim level as it is now. I have a 2016 Seat Leon FR (1.8 TSI) and whilst I like it, i feel there's too big a gap from the 180 bhp 1.8 up to the 300 bhp 2.0 Cupra. Hopefully now that Cupra is separate they'll bring out a 230-260 bhp FR more in line with the Golf GTi, Focus ST, etc.
And to anyone asking why people buy crap SUV's that cant drive off road, no one has any intention of driving them off road, they like the extra height which gives you better visibility in the traffic jams they sit in 90% off the time and they allow you to have your nice shiny 18" alloys without having to put up with the jarring ride 2 cm of rubber around them offers on the hatchback equivalent.
When i brought my Leon i made sure i stuck with the basic 17's because although the 18's look nicer i don't drive everywhere in discomfort and with fear of every pothole and kerb in sight. I do sometimes see other Leon's on the upgrade 18's which i like and regret not getting them, but then i see how kerbed and damaged they are compared to mine which don't have a single mark on them still.

I had high hopes for the Cupra Ateca, especially as I'm looking for a replacement for my Golf R and aging Forester XT. However, I personally think they could have designed a better badge - it just looks sh!t. It should have been a SEAT Ateca Cupra.
Perhaps I too could perform a little VAG badge-engineering. The square badge on the rear could easily be replaced with a SEAT one; the wheel centre caps likewise and the steering wheel pad too. However, I'm not so sure about the badge on the front grill. I'll have to investigate when I see one in the flesh. Now where did I put my screw driver ...

There is apparently a fix for this, I’ve experienced it since I got my Golf R estate. It was supposed to be in the dealer today, but my wife managed to crash it on the way to the garage, so unfortunately I can’t let you know the outcome!andrewparker said:

Almost as if it's been dialed down so that it doesn't take sales from the Tiguan.
I may end up getting an SUV again next year (other half likes them, I prefer estate cars) and my money would be on the Mazda CX5 or CX3.. Both make you feel better in terms of aesthetics.
