New Volvo V60 Launched!

I hope that the balance between style and load bay has been addressed; the current V60's load bay is smaller than many large hatches and the S60's wouldn't trouble its current V40 sibling. That was the single biggest factor that stopped me buying the current version of the V60.
In practice the present V60's load area is decent enough, I run one and even with 2 children and a dog (Springer) the only time we need roofbars is for trips away when we'd need one anyway (surf-boards, skis, bikes etc).I'll definately look at this new V60 but it'll be a good few years before they'll be in my price bracket...
I struggle with Volvos but I really don't know why
This looks lovely but there's something holding me back from really wanting one and I don't know what it is...
Is it the fact it's a Volvo? Not sure tbh.
It grates me because I want to want one but when all is said and done......don't.

Volvo is really getting stuff right these days. I was once white fan up to and including the first generation V40s after a string of red blocks growing up.
For me, Volvo lost its way. I never liked the look of the XC90 and the Volvos that followed.
Its a different story now. Probably the best interiors out there for the price and some fine looking metalwork.
I was in an XC90 the other month. It was gorgeous.
This new car could fit into my life very easily.
It won't though. As someone above said, I want to want one, there is something holding me back. After falling out of love with Volvo I became a JLR can boy. I've owned a few Landys and all things being equal I'll get an F Pace in a couple of years.
I would love to get over this issue and take the plunge with a Volvo.

Given that they're looking to move towards the end of a diesel range and a focus on hybrid and petrol models, I doubt they see sense in spending more on refining diesel technology.
Volvo have a stunning design at the moment. Easily the best looking cars in the segment. They make Audi and BMW look positively naff.

I really love the Volvo and I think the current gen A4 is a good looking machine too, a few too many slashes but I like the angular shapes. The 3 on the other hand is a mess. And the c class is a blob. Volvo have a stunning design at the moment. Easily the best looking cars in the segment. They make Audi and BMW look positively naff.
Fusion red, with the blond interior and a t8 engine

Can’t be that many though, how many people really opt for a 340 over the 320? Certainly can’t be many these days. especially company car tax payers.
The majority probably true, but then the issue as someone else pointed out is that the emissions are higher than other vehicles and the lease costs on Volvo still are above others.Regarding the diesel and petrol engines like other current Volvos they are all VEA engines and the underlying block is actually the same for either diesel or petrol.
Regarding hybrids an interesting time as so many mild hybrids have been pulled or temporarily stopped production in light of WLTP and RDE.
There won't be a direct PS version of any Volvo either as PS is now entirely separate car company. The 1 will becoming and they have a pipeline of a 2 and 3 (one of which is an SUV I believe). They will be Volvo under the skin, but there won't be a Volvo V60 Polestar etc. any more.
I do love Volvo having owned a C30 But the reality is owners are continuing to have numerous bizarre electrical issues with recent V90/XC90. Equally I know a number of owners that have had fairly bad but basic build quality issues (seat leather replacement, poorly aligned boot and bumpers on a few cars). This kind of stuff is basic.
The comparison with audi design is true as Thomas Ingenlath is now head of design at Volvo and is ex VAG...

Point taken, but I was surprised how much load space is lost through the very high boot floor. It could carry less than my then Mk2 Octavia hatch, and that's a shame for a Volvo estate.I'll definately look at this new V60 but it'll be a good few years before they'll be in my price bracket...
It probably says less about the V60 and more about my wife's inability to pack lightly that meant we bought a Mk3 Octavia estate for one baby.
Viewed as a stylish, comfortable large hatchback/ 5 door shooting brake thingy, the current V60 makes some sense. Viewed as an estate, it just isn't as practical as a 3 series, C class or even a Focus. It fails Volvo's own washing machine test, for example.
You've more adequately shown that it can work and people are happy with it, but it has cost Volvo some buyers. I think in the modern world, no one's expecting a Volvo 740 style load bay, but an improvement would be welcome. In a similar vein, the C30 was stylish but cost Volvo buyers who wanted rear doors and a sizeable boot. They remedied that with the strong-selling V40; I'm hoping they have a similar mindset with the V60. The rear profile certainly suggests so.

Since pistonheads seem to not be able to announce any new car unless it’s sold by VAG, Volvo have just launched the new v60, which to my eyes is stunning. It just looks right from every angle, how anyone could walk past it and buy a melted c class or a swagline a thon 3 series is beyond me.
A full page of comments on a Volvo and nobody has considered how it drives? Are those of us that choose a car based on how it drives rather than how it looks a dying breed?I mean, I wouldn't drive a SsangYong Rodius if it was the best handling car out there but the attractiveness of a car isn't really a primary concern for me and is obviously subjective.

The emissions are poor for their 2.0 diesel cars,
Really? I don't know about the bigger 60/90 series, but we've currently got a V40 D4 (190bhp) as a courtesy car and that only emits 99g/km (so free VED band). Pretty impressive I'd say. And it goes like a stabbed rat - it's pretty quick, for what it is.Go Volvo!
