Not as common as transverse, sure, but not that rare.

It is, I think only Audi has done it in the last 30 years.

Subaru have made longl engined FWD cars too, in the last 30 years.
Alfa might have just about, too; I'm not sure of the timing. Boxer engines make it make more sense, I suppose.

Fiat Panda 30 = longitudinal 2 pot.

Fiat Panda 45 = transverse 4 pot.
Ah, I forgot they did that. That was basically the 126 gubbins stuck in the front, wasn't it?

Renault 5 switched from longitudinal to transverse.

The 5th generation Toyota Corolla had a transverse engine except the AE86 coupe, which was also RWD.

The Alfa 145/146 was available with the longitudinal flat four, and the transverse Twin Spark.

The BMW 1-series is currently built as both, albeit not in the same body-style. The (Chinese market) saloon is FWD, the (rest of the world) hatch is RWD
Not just bodystyle - the entire platform. The Chinese 1 series is based on the 2 series FWD boxy MPV that the rest of the world has, which shares a platform with the MINI.

How about the Bond three wheeler with the pivoted single cylinder engine/front wheel steering arrangement. The engine was transverse or longitudinal (and all points inbetween) depending on whether you were going in a straight line or going round a corner.....

True. Or to or another to view it is to say China got the gen-3 1-series a couple of years before the rest of the world, with the gen-2's face glued to it.

Triumph 1500 was available with both.
No, they were all longitudinal, both FWD and RWD.
You're not wrong...
Would it be pedantic to suggest that the Triumph 1300, 1500 and Toledo were FWD longitudinal whilst it was the (different) facelifted Triumph Dolomite that was RWD?

I thought all Subaru's were 4WD even the basic ones. I cant think of any Subaru that wasn't 4WD.

Stretching it, Elise and Hennessy Venom ?

Elise is transverse and the Venom is Elise-ish based but with a longitudinal engine.

Leaving aside the BRZ, they've done 2WD Imprezas and Vivios, probably others I can't recall.

Far more complicated than that, but it's all the same basic car/shell.

The FWD 1500 had the same nose and tail as the RWD Dolomite, as did the RWD 1500TC...
The RWD Toledo had the same tail as the FWD 1300, but with different lights in the 1500/Dolomite nose - then the RWD Dolomite 1300 used the Toledo lights with the Dolomite tail.
