Funny pic, men in suits fondling a car in bad camo wrap.
Guy at the left is so amazed that he has to kneel. Admittedly, the achievement to bloat the 911 up to Bentley-esque proportions makes one want to kneel ... in despair. Guy standing is either 5'3 or the height of the car approaches SUV levels. What's the wheel size on that prototype? 21's at least? What an utter mess. Bored to tears with their stuff these days.
The original Cayman brought a little exotic into the affordable price range, but since then I'm not sure they've done anything of note. Fairly dull evolutions of nothing. The GT cars are even bland... But I suppose they're a fairly recent creation in the Porsche line, they have no real history. They're just luxury GTs pretending to be hardcore...
You just know the new one will have a horrible big screen in it too (making the owners life miserable, saving Porsche a load of money, and making the car useless in the future).
So bland, and yet people get excited by it.. I can't tell if I'm getting old or if people are getting thicker... Judging by certain other public behaviours in recent times however, I have an idea..

Surprised that there's no hybrid, I though hybrid was going to replace the Turbo in the lineup.
It would have good too, use the engine to power the rear wheels and a 200bhp motor up front.
I'm glad there isn't, it's extra weight and complexity. It would have good too, use the engine to power the rear wheels and a 200bhp motor up front.

Agree with that conclusion. The 992 rear design has been optimized to accommodate the hybrid equipment. I have also never heard of a pure electric 911. Given the launch of the Mission E I think it would be poor marketing strategy. in the long run I assume its possible of course.kapiteinlangzaam said:
It was already unveiled about a week ago by a lady with a cameraphone taking photos where she probably shouldn't.
Photos disappeared rapidly a few hours later.
The first actual information on this thread but somehow no one has commented on it. Can you tell us more, Herr Lehmann Long Lens :-)Photos disappeared rapidly a few hours later.
The 996 Carrera looked plain when launched, now a silver 996 Coupe on factory turbo style 18"s looks very good, if in perfect condition . Any base model 911 looks quite plain at launch, very quickly overshadowed by the more expensive models as they appear - and as someone old enough to remember the launch of the 964, through reading CAR when I was a schoolboy, every new 911 generation looks more boring than the limited edition version of the previous version at launch, but nonetheless the new basic version looks very modern at launch. It would be great to see the lady's camera phone pic. As an aside, when I was about 10 I read an article in CAR by Hans Lehmann, hunting prototypes in the deserts of the USA. I remember he found a Maestro driving in the US which was a quick giveaway that Rover were in town. Back to the point, in this article he had bought an 89 Speedster from Zipper Porsche in the US and sent it back to Germany . That term I got my first and last D grade in a subject as the teacher had one term to retirement and had no problem with me overtly reading CAR during lessons and my pal assembling Airfix models two desks down. From that article
I learned not to confuse new with special. The 964 C4 was already on sale when Lehmann bought his new old stock Speedster. However everything starts somewhere . Looking forward to that lady's photo of the 992.

Iconic and somewhat timeless.
I can't imagine Porsche without the 911. The two are synonymous. The US market in particular is mad about this car as well as the perception that a certain fastidious and idiosyncratic approach is or was part of its ethos.
Hopefully this newest iteration can be just a bit lighter than expected. Porsche is good at that.

Porsche really need to drop the 911, I mean its getting a bit long in the tooth now. All these little updates. Time to spend some cash on a brand new model.
It doesn't exactly seem to be suffering from poor sales...Think they call it 'victim of their own success'

So all 911s are going to be turbos?
Doesn't that sort of render the 911 turbo as a model designation obsolete.
Either way it's a daft moniker.
Yes it’s awkward that - Turbo now just sounds like marketing but it’s a tricky one because the “turbo” really does have a lot of differences from the normal cars which are turbo! Might be better to retain only the Turbo S ?Doesn't that sort of render the 911 turbo as a model designation obsolete.
Either way it's a daft moniker.

Its not a GT3 if its got a turbo. Why cant they badge it differently? GT5 maybe?
Why? Some GT3 cars have been turobcharged for years haven't they? I don't think there's anything particularly linking GT3 to natural aspiration. The Surveyor said:
And so the cycle begins again even before the last one stopped.
Waiting for the GTS, GT3, GT3 RS, GT2, Turbo S, GT3 Touring, R versions in limited number to awaiting flippers whilst the rest of us just gets bored with yet another 911 that looks just the same as the last one.
