Driving along the North Circular this morning and at the lights this black and red Merc of some description pulls up behind. I can hear a bit of noise, but when he went past it was absolutely deafening. laugh

I had to look over and laugh as it was so mad. You could feel the vibration from about 50 yards behind. Must have been some kind of AMG Black or something.

Made my car sound like a Prius. hehe

Seriously the loudest car I've ever heard on the road.

Yeah, I know cool story and all that.

I'm clearly getting old, but most of the 'hot'/'desirable' cars sound ridiculous these days.
AMG and dare I say AM amongst the worst offenders.
I love a nice sounding TVR, Ferrari or Lamborghini, but these souped-up autobahn mile munchers are just antisocial.

Know exactly what you mean, this thing was in a different league of loud.

I was in the ExCel last week and there were vintage race cars revving that were quieter than this thing. laugh

I do wonder when it's acceptable. A Ferrari was going through Glasgow city centre recently and it was obnoxiously loud, but nobody seemed to care: if it was a straight piped VXR making that sound I'm sure everyone would be offended !

We aren't all bell ends. I know of a C63 near me that is owned by one though. Drives flat out through town centre roads that aren't suitable for more than 15mph.

Also guessing at it having a valved exhaust such as IPE etc so can be loud/antisocial or quieter then when left the factory at the flick of a switch imo best of both worlds. Surly people don’t drive these things at that volume all the time would drive you insane!

Probably a Larini (or similar) exhaust system. Some of these aftermarket systems for performance cars are so loud.

There's a handful of videos on YouTube of V12 Mercs fitted with daft exhausts that sound almost racing car-like.

Essex has two breeds of people: The stereotypical SUV-owning mother who's angry at everything and the wker with an AMG using first gear WOT everywhere.

It puts me right off owning one.

Still, an AMG GTC Roadster cloud9

I like most large engined Merc's especially the AMG models (and as an aside my current intention is to buy a used SL500), but in my experience the C63 saloon is virtually without exception driven in such a manner to make me think the driver is a complete moron. Though, curiously, the coupe & estate, as with other AMG models, don't seem so afflicted.

Is this a bit city centre thing? As around my area I never see daft driving from the ‘higher’ end cars from AMGs up to Lamborghinis etc always seen driven sedately cruising about. If anything it’s still the ‘younguns’ in hot hatches that fly about like they have to prove their car is fast!
Last knobheadish driving I saw from a performance car was about a year ago a guy in a brand spanking 911 turbo doing launch control starts from 3 sets of lights about 400 yards from each other.

Well I’ll have to confess that I’m the exception to the rule. I bought a C63 estate last week (not new) and I’m driving like a complete dhead. Not in terms of outright pace, but the blip from third to second to first is like heroin.

I do an 80 mile daily commute to work and back but I’m taking even longer routes just so I can hear the burbles, crackles and pops. Like heroin I tell ye!

+1. For some reason, in my reasonably nice bit of north London, the done thing on a Friday and Saturday night is to drive around predominantly residential areas in brand new Mercs/Audis with stupidly loud exhausts fitted, slowing down outside pubs to rev the nuts off them and upshift so that it makes a fart noise. They're loud, they sound sh*t, and I can't see anyone being impressed.

Loudness isn't the same as musicality.

One day, I will do this. Just for a day.

Even better if it were switched, then I'd keep it for as long as it lasted until the first big bill. Just superb (if a tad knobbish, which is fine, as so am I).
