I have a 1998 Jaguar XK8 which has seen life. It will soon be having its first MOT in my stewardship so fingers crossed. The car leaks rainwater into the rear seat wells via the two rear side windows. I have removed the rear seat squab and backrest and am reluctant to remove the interior trim as I am afraid of damaging it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Get a cheap-ish set of trim removal tools, search the internet for how-to guides and if possible wait for the weather to warm up a little so that any old plastics become more flexible. Get some epoxy glue ready to stick things back together if they do break and go for it.

The car is 20 years old and in your words has been around the block. Fixing the leaks yourself will be very satisfying even if you have to take the rough with the smooth along the way in terms of the odd breakage. And most of it will be knocking around on eBay anyway.

Indeed

You won’t damage trim unless very careless or aggressive, trim fasteners are a different story and are easily broken and replaced plus pennies to replace.

Tracing leaks can be a nightmare especially on convertibles - assuming it’s an xk8 cab - and depending how long it’s been leaking for and the level of exposure to the elements I would be reticent to fix and probably move on as there could be untold hidden damage you’re yet to find plus the smell of damp is a mare to get rid of
