Don;t suppose anyone with one of these (or anything else with the x40i lump) has upgraded from something N52 powered and can offer a comparison between the two engines?
I should really be looking to replace the 125i this year and will probably need something a little bigger, but that engine up front in the 1 Series is making it spectacularly hard to let go of.

A while ago I was in the trade and the tactic of waiting until the last minute of the month / quarter / year / financial year doesn’t gain as much of an advantage as people tend to give it credit for, this is because the dealer targets are set for cars delivered not cars ordered.
so although at any time a sale is welcome , arriving pm on the last day of the financial year will mean you are unlikely to be collecting your car within the current set of targets that all the staff are keen to beat in order to gain the most commission , you will in fact most likely be collecting your car into the next year / quarter / month / financial year , so your plan to scoot in at the last moment is a good plan but your last minute tactic actually puts you into one of the first orders of the next target and not the last orders of the current target, you need to execute it so the dealer has enough time to for fill the order (arrive a week or a month before and not on the last day)
This is also mitigated by the fact the dealer doesn’t know how the offers will change in the coming month / year / quarter so the new set of offers could be much better and no one other than the manufacturer will know (unless a run out of old model is happening when clearly contributions will be high)
The truth is , within reason, the best deal is always available any month of any quarter at any time of the year you just need to meet the right person working at the dealership and get on with them + go in prepared , the current best way to check you are getting a great deal is to do a car wow quote before hand and don’t expect any more / much more from this level of discount on a new car.
One last point if you believe you got a better deal because you went in on Christmas Day at 5.58pm it’s because that helped you make the decision to buy at that time and not necessarily because it was the best time to buy.

Not the comparison you are after but I came from a E86 Z4M and I find the power delivery in this fantastic. Probably more down to the auto box and my crap shifting, but you can reach high speed really, really easily. My neighbour has a M140i with the MPPSK and that is really accessible speed. I should really be looking to replace the 125i this year and will probably need something a little bigger, but that engine up front in the 1 Series is making it spectacularly hard to let go of.
