RE: Senna 'Carbon Theme' for Geneva
Discussion
There is no doubting this car will be fast around the ring, probably the fastest road car ever. But it won't get anywhere near that 956. That car made over 5000 lbs of downforce. It could drive upside down. And then you have huge slicks. For the way the Senna looks, it better go 10 seconds faster around the ring than the GT2 RS.
I'm a bit confused by this. I thought the Senna was about the ruthless pursuit of performance. WTF is this? Congratulations on your Senna allocation, would you like us to vajazzle it for you?
Isn't the bodywork all carbon anyway? I'm assuming there's more to this than just not painting it, like the first/outer layer being a perfect aesthetic weave... which begs the question if the pretty panel is the same weight/performance as the paint grade one?

I guess it's up to McLaren how they cultivate thier customers, and down to the punters to buy the stuff they want, but it seems a bit crap to me that the car isn't even released and already McLaren are announcing "exclusive" limited editions with even more carbon fibre tinsel added at great cost to cars which mostly are unlikely to be driven.
If buying one of these things isn't a definition of rich man's folly, I don't know what is. But at the same time you can't deny there are lots of manufacturers milking thier wealthy customers in this way at the moment and McLaren are hardly the most exploitative of them by any means.

The constant barrage of old models with new lipstick and a higher price every few weeks is starting to get old.
McLaren need to take a breather. Their sales growth has crashed to a halt and they're not gonna solve it by bugging everyone with a minor new model every couple of weeks.

I think this car in full racing spec could get closer to the Stefan Bellof record around the Nurburgring than any other road based car!
6:11 was set in 83 with the Porsche 956 - that car had 650 hp and weighed 800kg
More power, modern gearboxes, adaptive suspension (soft on bump bits, low on the straights etc), modern tyres and aerodynamics
Make a lap time on the Nordschleife which is corrected for Bellofs slightly shorted 12.9 miles lap, borrow Alonso for the stunt!!
That would really be a spectacle to warrant any price they ask for this machine.

Is he not a bot?Either way it really is a disgrace that the account exists. Sadly his tiresome presence generates responses and will no doubt continue to.
Having someone post dumb opinions on the subject matters that are subjective with the intention to elicit responces is one thing, giving out made up and/or incorrect information on specific topics would be another and one I just can't see happening.

You can put £300k lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig... Blimey, the base car hasn’t even been made yet and McLaren is tapping up owners for hundreds of thousands of pounds for extras. Wonderful.
Why would this be a surprise? A high percentage of customers will be actively seeking the services of MSO to individualise their example because that is what they desire, much the same as they have done with all of the previous models that have been realeased, so it's not like McLaren have to tap anyone up for the extra services is it?There is also nothing in the article to indicate that this example is in addition to the initial 500 allocation so I would assume that it is just part of it and MSO cleverly advertising the type of thing that they can do before the majority of customers have specced their car.

Explains it better than me.
“The McLaren Senna customers in the process of specifying their own, personalised cars are almost without exception commissioning an elevated level of MSO content, so we are definitely appealing to our target audience,” explained Ansar Ali, Managing Director, McLaren Special Operations.

Not a chance. That would make it 30s a lap quicker than the current road car record and significantly quicker than a GT3 car. Which it definitely won’t be.6:11 was set in 83 with the Porsche 956 - that car had 650 hp and weighed 800kg

And it looks even more of a joke than the non carbon one. Blue, geeen and yellow. Wow

This you would have thought. There are some pretty complex shapes to get lined up as well so can see why it would take a great deal of Man hours to get it right. Bare carbon added a lot to a Zonda's and Koenigsegg price as well so it is not without precedant. RacerMike said:

You're forgetting the 6:11 is a shorter lap than the current lap, so it wouldn't have to be 30s faster, probably nearer 15s or so. If put on slicks it certainly would be in with a shout. And it looks even more of a joke than the non carbon one. Blue, geeen and yellow. Wow
