I like this from Jag. It's a silly test but Tesla have been dining out on short little farting drag races for years now and Jag are just beating them at their own game.

How seriously we can take the results of this test is open to question. It is, after all, a Jaguar marketing video and the shaking of the head of the Tesla driver at the end of the second drag race was am-dram at best.
Very seriously I would think.

For no reason other than Jag being aware that Elon Musk would go nuts on social media if it wasn't correct, and would re-run it in his own video which would make headlines everywhere 'Jag fakes test, Tesla better'. He might even sue them like he did Clarkson.

Plus Jag will have been benchmarking their car against the X throughout its development.

He might even do that when the Jag becomes available....

its Jag that started this pointless comparison.

They are using the Tesla because they are the bench mark for high performing EV's.

Picking the 'not the fastest' tesla model to drag up against in their 'fastest' model just makes them look silly.

Pound for pound their car out performs others in the segment but its not 'faster' than a tesla model x just the model x for the same money.

i too agree that these tests carry no real world benefit until they include range when driven hard etc.

What would be good is a race round an oval - most laps completed wins... go from full to flat

It's hardly beating them at their own game when they chose a Tesla that's in a total different size class to the Jag, and then didn't go for the fastest version (which is considerably quicker than the Jag).

Compare the prices. This is best comparison they can make.

Yeah I get the point but the Model X is a 7 seater and this isn't, and they're generally not very similar apart from not having an ICE.
This isn't exactly an SUV either - why not compare to the Model 3 which is much more similar in size?

Jaguar launched the car last night.

You can go on the website now and configure one, and go to a dealer and pay for one.

You'll get it in around 3-4 months, same as any other factory order Jag.
Not a chance!

They will likely not even make 30,000 of them a year, and claim to have an order book already of 2 years manufacturing capacity.

Tesla are getting ripped to shreds because they can't make any of their Model 3, their production goals are more than 10 times the I-PACE

I like the 'look' of it, that's for sure. But remember how we got all excited about the Velar and it turned out to be not so exciting in the road tests.

Let's wait for a long term test and proper review from an unbiased source.

+1

Audi are launching their e-tron market by market, starting with Norway. I would imagine their ability to scale up would be significantly greater than JLR so if they can't even rollout across Europe then agree, no way JLR will be meeting demand anytime soon.

Both Audi and JLR just want to get as many customers committed as possible so they don't then go elsewhere.

Looks utterly brilliant IMO. Some proper footage instead of PH potato spec images.

Looks proper does that.

Love the back, reminds me of the Alfa 156.

Having watched the launch live & the above video on Jags site I don’t recall much if any info on autonomous features, assume I’ve missed something?

I think it has some basic lane assist stuff?

Hmm there might not be any! I don't see it as a given that it will have some, just because Tesla does it.

Completely agree. Guess it’s just to date EV & autonomous has gone hand in hand.

One good thing is that the screens seem still to have some buttons too. I note a variety of complaints on tests for Tesla’s & the new A8 where they’re omitted. I certainly find myself ‘stabbing’ at my touch screen to no avail!

There's basic lane assist. You can spec it on the configurator.

A friend has the X with ludicrous speed. We raced my Cayenne GTS against his car. (not on English roads I hasten to add).

I’m not sure the Cayenne is a competitor as the X has 7 seats. But, I considered both and ended up with the Cayenne and my other in law gets to drive herself.

Anyway, back to the race. The X had no issue getting a car length ahead and keeping the advantage. We were expecting this though. I was a little surprised it didn’t totally destroy me.

The amusing thing was my friend said that due to my car sounding so good it was the perfect mix of his speed and my soundtrack.

What sort of speed was it at? I find my Tesla tails off quite a lot at 100 that is where an ICE starts to really come into its own.

I am amazed people aren’t pointing out that the reality will be more like 200 mile range if it’s not cold and with no charging network any long journey with only 50kw charging will be very inconvenient.

I find Tesla network not good enough and inconvenient so can’t imagine what this will be like. Seems like 65k+ for quite a lot of inconvenience is a bit mental as I don’t know about everyone else but I usually spend money to make life easier not harder. For balance I say the same about my Tesla which is why I’m not getting another anytime soon.

If you are not doing 200 miles a day then charging at home IS easier than either refuelling with Dino charging or loitering at a supercharger.
