It's very simple.

AWD means all wheels driven. There may be 4, 6 or 8 of them in total.
4wd means four wheels driven. This may be out of a total 4, 6 or 8.
4x4 means four wheels, four driven.
Not looking to get into a debate, but in the context of a four wheeled vehicle, every source I can find online disagrees with that. smile
Yes, there's a lot of bks online about how this means part-time, and that means lockable centre diff, and a third means whatever some random loon's decided it means. They're rarely even consistent.

But, they consistently disagree with you. wink
Not a single one agrees and some of them are from pretty reputable sources. Certainly more trustworthy than somebody on a forum anyway...

Careful, you're using logic backed up with sources, it doesn't compute with him smile

Appreciating asset, highly usable and one of the best buys you can make for a mere fraction of the price of the V8 ....

So does everyone don’t they? It’s been in the reports that it’s the JE Zulu product fundamentally hasn’t it?

Which is a nice bit of history to have the company back involved with the factory.
I totally get where your coming from but the first 3 cars were developed and built in cumbria. Reiger suspension, AP brakes, upgraded bushes all round and the standard defender final drive. Which is the main reason for the low top speed stated in the article.
I didn’t know that. I thought they were using the JE set up. Thanks.

You could well be right and they have had input after our original 3 were built! Either way they are fantastic bits of kit and there will be many worse ways to spend that money. Respect to anybody that appreciates the lunacy of them

Having driven a JE supercharged AJV8 Defender and the NA one I think any owners of these will have tremendous fun. I preferred the NA 4.2 back then as I thought it was a smoother drive. These cars with the ZF 8 box will be very nice.

People who won’t and can’t buy one: Too expensive! Stupid! You could buy three used whatevers which are faster and more modern and more economical!

Land Rover: They’re all sold.

Here's how I see it:

You could buy 100 nice houses for the price of a mega mansion in Brentwood, but what would somebody who can afford the $35m mega mansion want with 100 nice $350k houses in Maryland?

Just like you can buy 20 nice Defenders for the price of this, but what would someone who can afford to spend £150k on a Defender want with 20 run of the mill Defenders? None of us could justify spending money like that because £150k is dream car money, for the people who can afford to buy one, most of the time it's pocket change. Respect to the poster that's bought one.

An excellent précis.

Would be helpful to cut and paste, changing just the manufacturer name, into any number of threads.

Love it. When I read about it a few weeks ago I went and bought some lottery tickets.

Amuses me how a susposedly car focused forum you get people so willing to knock a car product rather than celebrate it.

Shame they didn’t make them like this earlier and cheaper would be perfect for me and the dogs.

I’m just hoping the dont fk yo the replacement looks wise. G wagon managed to stay the same.

Can't we just get the specs on the suspension treatment and come up with a price to retrofit? Not everybody wants a fast defender with an expensive interior, but I suspect plenty of people would like a bit more ride comfort!

Interesting none the less.

They plan to offer some of the modifications to existing Defender owners.

The brakes are by Alcon, and the suspension a bespoke Bilstein setup.

I wonder how different these are to the big brake and fast road suspension kits (Alcon and Bilstein) offered by Bowler for their fast road Defender.

It's far simpler than that, and you're thinking too narrowly.

AWD means all wheels are driven. It says nothing about how many wheels that is. This is AWD, but not 4wd.

4wd means four wheels are driven. It says nothing about the total number of wheels. This is 4wd, but not AWD.

4x4 says that there are four wheels, of which four are driven. The first truck is 6x6, the second is 6x4.

Don't get confused with permanent or part-time systems, or about the centre diff and/or transfer box technology.
I am totally confused now. That first truck has 10 wheels?????

In truck land two tyres bolted to the same end of an axle count as one wheel in the UK. Our American cousins, in their never-ending failure of modesty, count each tire as a wheel.

400 bhp to get to 106 mph? I suppose I should be grateful my 2286cc Series III Diesel ever made it to 60 mph with only 62 bhp.
