I’ve had another, but much newer and with pretty much half the miles... thanks for the good luck, I really think I’ll need it.
150 mile trip home on Monday with it. Hope the radio works!

Brave call. Good luck.

I hope it does you well but I confess that I'm not sure I've got the balls. Will be really interested to hear how you get in with it.

If a £2k phaeton works it’s an epic bargain.

I had another earlier this year, but being a LWB I just couldn’t get on with it - and insurance was criminal.
Thankfully I’m now on a trade policy and this one is a shortie (well, at over 5M short isn’t really the right word!) so it should be a little easier to park.

I’m going to get much more into DIY repairs (especially as this has cost me a quarter of the last one to buy) which should keep the cost down.

Means I can keep the 330d off the road for some minor maintenance (definitely time at 280k), not have to rely on the ZT- T as much (knocking on 200k and needing some love) and the Sprinter won’t be used as a car when both of the above are broken laugh

Yes, I’m just as certifiable as the above ‘garage’ makes me sound. Keeps me on my toes!

Pics etc incoming Monday.

Out of curiosity how expensive was your trade policy? With the frequency that I change cars a trade policy would have made a lot of sense!

IIRC you have to be both registered as a trader and VAT registered to get a trade policy.

I could be wrong, but there are a few threads about this on here somewhere (I couldn't be bothered searching).

Not really sure what's the worst that can happen. Run it as cheap as possible and if it eventually explodes beyond economic repair stick it on eBay for a grand as spares?

The first service and repair on my newly purchased 08 9-3 Aero wagon cost 10 times that!

I won it in a sweepstake of sorts, and I don’t even need it but I’d committed to my stake prior to buying the Mondeo and ended up winning so now have two silver mid size barges on the drive.

I’m going to smoke about in the SAAB for a month and then see which I fancy keeping but heated seats in the mondeo may be the deciding factor if I’m honest, even though the SAAB is tidier outside.

I’ve already given the leather a little spruce up.

There are a couple of known issues with the SAAB, the front bushes are wearing and will probably need doing next year as there’s a clonk over bumps.

The gearbox is a bit grumpy when warm in traffic (not an issue for me as I don’t see much traffic on my commute) and when going into reverse after a long drive, if you don’t remember to pause in neutral it’s like a kidney punch as it jolts in.

Other than that, it’s fine biggrin

I pick up the galaxy on Wednesday, I’m working in London during the day and then have to get over to Chelmsford to collect it from a barn and drive it to Leeds for 3 hours.

Seller updated today to say they’d been to c heck and it turned over fine but a bit lazy on the battery so he ran it around and then disconnected the battery so I better remember my 10mm spanner on the way down!

That Saab looks lovely - and it'd be worth 5 times that as scrap! Can't go wrong biggrin

I'm immensely jealous, having also entered the same sweepstake.

My Aero estate shed could use a little coolant top up. Hopefully it's nothing serious going wrong.

Collected the Galaxy tonight, 200 miles of wafty bus driver seating position with no major dramas.

Biggest worry was collecting it solo from the barn in the middle of nowhere (keys hidden by prior arrangement) and connecting back up the battery hoping it had enough charge to fire up and not have me marooned and sleeping in it for the night. biggrin

£500 and 12 months MOT, should see me right for tip runs and extended family bussing about.
