The great thing about the bike community is that it doesn't really matter what you ride. You can be on a little, naked 125, a 600 tourer or a 1000 sports and there's always this fraternal atmosphere of appreciation.

Unless you're on a GS or a Harley.

I'd like to think they're not representative of the wider community. Most of us are pretty nice. Even Bikers Nemesis has his moments.
You want me, don't deny it, we both know it.

100% agree with you.

I am sure I would enjoy biking greatly. I love the look and sound if many bikes. A pal has , amongst other bikes, a Ducati Panigale and it is a thing of beauty, so much so that if I could I would buy one and put it on a plinth just to look at !

But ......for me given my own personal circumstances biking feels like it offers too much risk.
Same with me. I know myself and I know I would have pushed a bike too hard and come a cropper.

I pushed cars too hard and had a major accident.

I recall a tale from my friend, an ex triumph design engineer. He was going to a funeral of a biker (on his r1) and stopped at another friends house. The son was excited by the r1 and had just got his own sports bike and was recounting getting his knee down and other exciting exploits on the road.
My friend cautioned him on the dangers of riding like this on the road and the fact he was on the way to a funeral of another biker.

Yep, he then had to attend the funeral of the lad who came off that same day.

ride like a tit and it will go wrong pretty badly, drive like a tit and you might have a chance.

Ride and drive in a reasonable manner and you stand a much bigger chance.

I'm a die hard biker, always have been always will be, prefer them to cars but seriously a fking GS more fun than a 993? it pains me to call any bike hateful but GSs are hateful.
Im 55, going on 20
What would you suggest I buy.
I do a fifty mile commute into Paddington, there and back every day.
Nothing compares to a 1200 Adventure.
Nothing.

The 993 is very pretty and competent, but the C4s is not exactly a thrilling thing to drive.
I’d like to see you catch me in a 993.
It’s pretty well sorted

Sorry for the slight drift off topic, but what's with the hate for GS's (or is it GS riders) on here. Just as there are cars for most occasions, from diesel pickups to Aeriel Atoms, there are bikes for most needs too and the GS is one of them.
Is there really something that makes the bike hateful (and less fun than a car), or is it just one of these stupid Clarksonesque clichés popular with the uneducated masses?
(Genuine question, I'm thinking of getting on to replace my aging Tiger)

I don't care if people like or dislike motorcycles. I know what I like.

Egg and chips, little bit of salt, brown sause, a slice of bread and butter to make a chip sandwich.

Butter must be spread evenly and reach all four corners.
That, my friend, is exactly right
Quality ham eggs chips bread and butter, not cheap stuff
And a piping hot mug of Yorkshire tea.

I'm a biker, but don't ride or hang about with others. One of the things I love about biking is being out there on the road, just me and the bike, could never get the whole 'riding in a gang' thing. But saying that, I find the 'motorcycle community' to be the most friendly, non- judgemental, helpful bunch of guys(and girls) I've ever come across.
Don't know who you've been hanging with but it wasn't any of the bikers I've known.
Yeah me too, far nicer than some of the car community.
Take a look at the Porsche forum its non stop spitefulness and arguing.

Yeah.

It's more GS riders than the GS that get the stick, often deservingly so. There are many clubs in the biking world, none more strange than the die-hard GS'er. You'll have seen the type: full BMW Rallye suit, full metal luggage (usually empty), flip-face lid and a heavy-set wife on the pillion seat. Everything on the bike sparkling clean. They're mocked because of this slavish adherence to the GS gear code despite the fact that they're usually tootling ok local roads on a Sunday.

The GS is a tremendous bike, great for long distance touring if a K1300S or ZZR1400 is too fast and sporty for you. If you want to ride one in full kit on the local lanes, go for it, but expect some grief. I don't dislike adventure bikes, I spent most of August last year riding a Triumph Explorer 1200 XRT whilst my T595 Daytona was in for work at Triumph. I thought it was a really great bike.

As I said, they are gorgeous but 285bhp and 1520KG, "Porker" being the operative word.
I had a C4 Targa years ago and wish i'd gone for a RWD
I’ve had 3 993s. In my experience the C2 with narrow body and small wheels is the most fun to drive. Not quick by modern standards (especially compared to bikes) but certainly can be thrilling to drive as they can be thrown around. Small, good steering, great sound track. Not the best looking 911 but great all round package.

Without turning this into a Porsche/car thread ive been lucky enough to own many Porsches. 930 Turbo, 993 2 964's 996 RS 2 997 Gt3 Cayman GT4 and a Boxster Spyder and briefly a 996 4s. The 993 is a pretty car no question. With all the ones that ive owned the best one to drive was the cayman IMO.

I'm certainly no driving god, far from it, but i found the smaller cars the easiest to drive quickly and great fun.
The 996 RS was awful on the road but the 997 GT3's made the best noise.

If i had one for the rest of time it'd be the cayman
