Kids throwing stones at cars...
Discussion
Furious isn’t the word right now.
Earlier today during a quick stop at a local supermarket I parked up at the back of the car park only for stones to be thrown at my car a second later. The glass of my rear windscreen now has chips in it, but I’m just glad it wasn’t the paintwork!
There’s a park just behind the car park that leads to a rough area of town, and it seems people have been hurling stones and other objects from the park over the fencing and into the supermarket car park. A mate of mine had been parked in the same area just a few spaces away from where I’d parked and they had those heavy duty type plastic mats thrown onto their car! I saw a football being hurled over the fencing too.
Seriously, is there anything more frustrating than having your car damaged from reckless idiots entertaining themselves by throwing stones? Is there even anything you can do about it, besides vent online on PH? Luckily, my chips aren’t TOO deep and are small, so I’ll just grit my teeth and get over it. Is there a correct way to handle these things though? I doubt there’s much point reporting this to the police. There’s no CCTV in that park so no evidence anyway.

It needs recording so yes the police need to be made aware, it's criminal damage.
Sadly, as stated there doesn't sound like there's much change of identifying who's responsible but it might get some passing attention from the local neighbourhood team and stop it happening to someone else.

This would be my stance also. I'd say always report stuff like this, it might not directly help you, but it might get something done about it if it happens a lot.Sadly, as stated there doesn't sound like there's much change of identifying who's responsible but it might get some passing attention from the local neighbourhood team and stop it happening to someone else.
Unless its a murder or you’re doing 31 in a 30 tbh cops arent bothered and nothing will hapen. I would still report it though. Otherwise crime reports show that the budget cuts are working and that crime is down. The government will say ‘look the less police we have the less ceime is commited, lets cut another 20,000 officers and watch the crime rate tumble.

Earlier today I went to my local Morrisons and pulled into a spot at the very back of the car park, only for something to hurl straight off my car a second later while I was still in the car. It was such a sickening crack and was definitely a stone, and as a result my rear windscreen now has two chips in the glass.
Does this happen to be a particular Morrisons branch in the Bolton area? Probably a coincidence but this has been a big issue at my local branch in recent months. I've had stones (and a fence panel on one occasion!) thrown at my car there a few times now by "kids" (around 15 years old) hiding in the bushes - I called 101 and they weren't interested as I expected, but hopefully it was recorded on file at least.MatthewH5 said:

No, this was in Scotland. I honestly don’t get what sort of satisfaction people are gaining from throwing crap at cars. It makes you paranoid because kids could be hiding anywhere waiting to hurl rocks at your paintwork! Police will do nothing if the offenders are below 16. When I was younger we had a problem with groups of teenagers coming into our garden in the early hours of the morning to bounce on the large trampoline in the garden, drink, shout, swear, leave rubbish everywhere and damage the trampoline. Police were more than useless. One night my Dad locked one of the bams in the shed and phoned the police. Police said they could do nothing and if he wasn't released it was kidnapping. Ringleader ended up being the first person in Scotland to be banned from an entire region (once 18) and the inspiration for ASBOs.
