Taking the latest models as our benchmark, I'd say:

Audi
Mercedes
BMW and VW
Porsche

Interior as well or exterior? If interior included then audi are definitely doing the best interiors, followed by Mercedes then VW then BMW

My order -

Porsche
Audi = BMW = Mercedes
VW = Opel (does that count as German still?)

Porsche & Mercedes out front for me.

  1. biased.

I think Audi have lost the plot a bit, they all look the same unless side by side for size comparison.

I think the amg gt is the best looking German car but Mercedes don't make the best looking range of cars overall.

I'd say Porsche as they don't make a car I don't like the look of these days.

Alpina - look like BMW
RUF - look like Porsche
SMART - look like pedal bins

The rest I couldn't tell what it was if one hit me crossing the road.

If something from Mansory hit you when crossing the road, you'd probably improve it.

Do you not recognise the Jetcar?

Not sure about Audi being a good looking brand. Apart from the cooking models or those endowed with some form of bodykit they look very ordinary.

Take a base A4 (or C-class, 3 series or Passat) and they look bland to the point of not even registering on the consciousnesses. They all need big wheels, subtle body kits or lairy paint jobs to stand out.

If I had to then,

Porsche
BMW
Merc
Audi
Vw

Are we just comparing our favourite models or actually trying to average across a range? An AMG GT doesn't address the weird c-class/CLA rear end which you see a lot more of, Audi's have a few examples where the design is working well but the rest is a mish-mass of over branding.

Audi make dull looking cars and have done so for years.

Top of the range 80-100k car and how bloody boring is that.

But thats the whole point of an RS6 - goes largely un-noticed by the public at large.

I don't really have an opinion on Porsche and VW.

Out of the Audi, BMW and MB's that I look at (mainly the coupe's, saloons and estates)

BMW
I love the latest 3's, 4's, 5's and 6's. Back to taught, well-proportioned, nicely-detailed designs after a decade of being Bangled

Audi
Always conservative but nicely designed. IMHO they tend to age a bit quicker but all-in-all handsome, well proportioned and well detailed

MB
As a fanboi and owner over the last 15 years I find myself going WTF is happening to the C's and E's? I know my 212 has it's....err.....individual look from head on but the profile and rear are crisp. But to my eyes the newer ones are an oddly unresolved combination of overly aggressive front with blobby middle and read sections. A lot of the newer AMG versions have lost the subtelty of the past and have become very shouty. And as for the exhaust note on the 43's.....they sound more like Barry Boy in his Nova than a grown up performance brand.
