First one is insane.
Um, isn't that the one being discussed higher up the page on another website in which a lorry decimates a caravan whose towing car has to emergency brake to avoid a car in front that's stopped?

Specifically on that crash, whatever happened to the "two second rule"? Surely the truck was far too close to the caravan to begin with.
I realised that after I posted it. I think the compilation as a whole is new tho.

Very little evidence of sh*t driving there!
In a Cit Zantia ?....I was wondering if it was fake.
Its an Activa smokin
It holds the record for lateral g

With your user name you should know about the elk test smile

I love this statistic about the Xantia and I hope it keeps the record! Are there any videos of it doing the test?
Must say, that driving was (for what I've seen) Excellent - There was a bit of dubious contention that could have led to concern from oncoming, but other than that - wow.

I will raise you this, however: https://youtu.be/oCPl7Er22e4?t=48 - Not quite the perfectly flat cornering of the Xantia, but it's been matched - By a jazz!
All this faffing with adaptive dampers; I'm not sure why nobody has gone back to the old citroen approach - Variable ride hight, cornering like that, and well known for ride quality. I'm sure they could do even better now.

As for the point in hand, What a collosal throbber of a merc stopping on the DC; I'd have been absolutely fuming.

Very true; A point to note here is the all lane running - No hard shoulder for the car, and a crash barrier on the verge; No option to leave the carridgeway at all. Looks as though it's right under a traffic camera too..

Thanks for the reply , why Citroen has not kept the tech going is beyond me?
Or anyone else?

Apparantly because it stays flat, the Activa gives next to no feedback on how close to the grip limit you are.

It may not be the contribution to road safety it appears

The centre rear sphere next to exhaust was good at catching fire too
McLaren use hydraulic suspension. Granted it’s not a mainstream manufacturer.

I see your point about the grip limit, surely they could have developed it over the last decade though, but I suppose the bean counters put a stop to that. It would have been good to see what it’d be like now with current technological advancement.

Excellent fast road driving, IMO. Could have even done more 'off-siding' for better visibility, given the the sparse traffic.

Could well be Route Napoleon or Massif Central, two favourites of mine.
According to the video caption it is the RN here.

Another view of that flat cornering. I've never driven a Xantia, but used to own a V6 XM and it would go around bends much better than a car like that had a right to.

Looks like the car towing the caravan was being break tested ? Loving the toilet seat at the end.

I see what you did there wink
Was that an example of a poor break test?

You have to feel for the people having all their personal stuff scattered about the motorway

Certainly looks that way. Silver car lurches from having the brakes applied pretty hard. Obviously Mr Lorry wasn't keeping an ideal distance but goes to show how stupid brake testing is!

It was discussed at length a few pages ago. There was no brake testing.

Methinks he did mean break tested wink
Apparently the silver car was already stopped when the caravan tow car ran into it. the truck driver caught by surprise

It's doesn't work properly, that is the problem. Too many false positives. DAF tractor units are some of the worst for it as certain overpasses on the dual carriageway bits of the A1 trigger it and the truck does an emergency stop in lane 1 with no warning. It's got to the point where truckers are refusing to drive them as the haulage company are saying if you manually disable the function in the dash console and then have an accident you'll be held 100% responsible, regardless of the circumstances rolleyes.

I'd like to see more info on this before taking Mr Train's tale as gospel. Link to a story or a trucker forum eg. Good to get facts out there (this technology is a powerful safety tool, so we shouldn't dunk on it without knowing exactly what's happening).

Anyway, thread derail.
