Sad indeed.
People are selfish and stupid. I informed a driver last week parked on DYL's and across a dropped kerb for mobility scooters etc, as it was closest to the shop door, notwithstanding there was a car space about 10 metres further on.

I told them someone couldn't cross the road the other day as a car was blocking the dropped kerb.

She said what's that, I told her to open her door and look down you'll see it.

As she did so, she said "Well there aren't any signs", I despair at times.

On our local FB group a guy complained about wardens giving out parking tickets on Bank Holidays. I said people should read the bloody signs. He seemed to think i was somehow special and better than others for doing so!

Not only that but it looks like the lorry is just forward of the lights and waiting for a gap in oncoming traffic.
Now I've watched it again, I'd agree that the lorry has passed the "stop" line already. This disagrees with the bbc story which says the lights turned red as he approached.
Obviously we can't condone any improper driving in this tragic case, but I'd like to think that if I was that pedestrian then I wouldn't have crossed at that phase. Toddlers are different of course.
I read about this story a few weeks back, if I remember rightly lorry stopped on the crossing waiting for a gap to pass the car parked on the zig zags so couldn’t see the lights as they changed and toddler crossed in front just as the HGV set off. Sure it said the driver of the parked car was done for something not sure if was death by careless driving as well.

Edit: I should read the links first, parked car driver done for careless driving.
The truck driver admitted careless driving - who wouldnt?
Since he was past the lights and unlikely to see them change to red, pedestrians may have moved into the corner blind spot, would the case have been satisfied otherwise?
I guess he's sitting high up, looking forward, can't see the lights change and certainly can't see or isn't looking for people who could well be out of sight just stepping out without looking/taking care. Tragic but surely if you had your child with you and you were walking right out in front of an HGV you'd use a little care? I feel sorry for the driver as well the family.

Received a three year ban to boot. I guess they threw the book at him as hard as the offences would allow.

I think that's the real result - everyone feels awful, I'm sure the parent will be feeling guilty, the lorry driver will feel guilty for what is arguably something that he couldn't have known about. From his position in the cab I'd be surprised if he could see the crossing at all on the left-hand side.

I politely (honestly, I'm not being sarcastic, I was very polite) said to somebody that where they had parked on double yellows outside a recently built shop really restricts the view out of the adjacent junction, which I drive out of everyday. Apparently it was alright because he's a professional driver, and people can see through his car. I walked off at this point, you can't argue with stupid.

Nope, they drag you down to their level and then beat you on experience.

Good, the stupid old . Doesn't look capable of driving a car.

Were the lights changing? Was there a gap in the oncoming traffic for the lorry to use, (in which case his attention would have been on that).

What a nightmare. Words can't describe how much pain that family must be in. Another reminder to us all not to let our emotions get the better of us when on the roads. (Ironic given the nature of nearly ALL videos on here, I know).

Indeed. I saw a dash cam the other day where traffic on a motorway was very heavy but an idiot in a small car decided to squeeze in front of an HGV (stop start traffic) when they were all essentially stationary. When the HGV moved off he couldn't even see the car and hit it. Totally the car driver's fault but if the HGV driver can't see a car that close he has no hope with tiny pedestrians. As you say, tragic all round.

I think that's one of the lowest ratios of cammer instigating trouble in a clip vid I've seen - some really terrible driving in there though, jesus wept.

Seeing more of the DCW forcing there way through just to make a point. Third clip being an example.

Easiest and safest thing to do is allow the emerging to pull out but no, must swerve in to another lane and get back to my rightful place in front. tt.

Just about all of it?

Roundabouts... priority to the right, give way to anyone else on the roundabout
Dont honk at them and expect them to back up out the way

Bizarre isn’t it. We all make mistakes and very few need result in a physical accident but the mighty DCW seems unwilling to give an inch in favour of potentially causing a very disruptive and expensive accident. Being right isn’t worth a damn when your car is in bits.

'Chris F' just seems like an absolute weapon. Horn whenever he can. His clip of the white car having got the wrong lane and trying to come back onto the main lane from the slip - the car in front just uses the hatched markings smoothly to get past, but no, instead of doing the same and getting on with his day Chris is on the brakes hard and on the horn, swearing. Bet he gets a proper lob on from these clips.
