I suppose being thought of as a div and getting a conviction for careless driving is better than a conviction for driving while using a phone.

A "spider"....yeah ok.
Guy ran into the back of my car in London a while back and said 'Sorry, my foot slipped off the pedal'. At about 10mph in heavy traffic?? Yeah riiight!! On his phone no question.

Is it? I'd hope they were the same! They certainly should be.

I wonder if spiders or other phobic animals might become the new bees and cramp.

The number of stranded motorists that decide to stand at the front of their vehicles is mind-boggling.

about 10 years ago on the A580 dual carriageway a fiesta had broken down , they sat in the car in lane one I assume because it was raining , as I approached from the other direction I saw a truck swerve round them.

I was utterly gobsmacked when I came back 40 minutes later and they were still sat in it with people not noticing they were stationary , amazingly they hadn't been hit but that truck would've had a normal person out of the car, raining or not

Careless driving is 3 point / £100 fixed penalty, phone is 6 point / £200 fixed penalty. Obviously if it went to court they could go higher.

To be fair, it can happen.
I went to pull away in my car while wearing wet boots. Foot slipped up the clutch pedal and it sprung up, trapping my foot between the clutch and the bottom of the dash. Fortunately had no one in front to hit as i trundled along in first gear desperately trying to free my foot.

Imagine if they'd have been on the inside lane which was as clear as a bell..

Did the Mercedes catch fire at the end? a 50mph shunt into a static car must've hurt..

I was about to ask the same question! Serves the A-Class driver right for lane-hogging.

In this instance you do actually need to be in lane 3 to go north onto the Liverpool ‘ring road’ although no doubt they been in lane 3 since Hull to be prepared.

Didn't touch brakes until about 3 feet from impact either = on phone, and had no idea what lane they were in, what day it was, or where they were.

I think there might be a bit more to this. If he usually drove as per that video, he wouldn't have lived past the age of 17.
It just looked ludicrous- I wonder if he was trying to kill himself? In those conditions, at that speed, he was bound to hit something.

Not sure that makes it any better though. He could have found a nice concrete bridge pier to drive into.

I thought the same watching the video. I struggle to believe there's not more to the story. He was either having some sort of mental episode or desperately trying to get away from something/someone. I'm guessing if he was under the influence of drink/drugs we'd know about it, so I doubt it's that. Terrible waste of life, that poor husband. frown
