There is some truth in that statement, but maybe it's not worded sensibly.

Some people want to exceed the speed limit, so complain if the driver in front is in the wrong lane.
Some people want to use the wrong lane but drive at the speed limit, and complain it the driver behind wants to speed.

They are both as bad as each other. You can't simply take the Highway Code and selectively ignore some of it, whilst complaining about others who are selectively ignoring a different part of it.
If the lane to the left is empty and the person behind you wants to pass whether he is speeding or not, you are a bellend to block that lane. It is not the job of dcw's or other drivers to police the roads
If someone comes barreling up behind me at 100+ on the motorway, the fact that they're speeding is irrelevant to me. I'll move to the left at the earliest opportunity to let them past and remain there until I want to overtake someone else. Hogging the outside lane and blocking them achieves nothing unless your aim is to act like a complete tit.

It's not my job to police the roads, and anyone who thinks it's theirs is either a police officer or a dhead (not that the two are mutually exclusive).

Doesn’t matter what speed you want to travel at, you keep left unless overtaking, it’s incredibly easy yet so many people can’t get their heads around it.

This ++.

Slightly OT: I haven’t driven in France for about 5-6 years but this is something they used to get right. You could make long trips cross-country at a good pace with minimum frustration and without breaking any speed limits thanks to the good lane etiquette. Whenever I got home I’d wonder how so many can fail at something so simple, and it’s only got worse since then frown

Similar thing driving a hire car in Crete, most main roads have what the UK would probably call a hard shoulder, if it's not blocked then people will pull over into that for a hundred yards or so to let faster drivers pass. Here, people will sit in lane 2 of a DC for 3 miles before and after a slip road, and use that as an excuse being being a c**t.

You're forgetting just how insufferable people genuinely can be. Put it this way, at work one customer got absolutely livid with the company because the URL he was sent by the automated ticketing system had the word "nuonce" in it which is actually internal terminology for the system to define a not used once ticket holder. He want mental because someone labelled him a "nonce" and would not accept the fact that this is coding terminology used by the system and nothing more.

Some people just are a bit braindead like that.

Or a bit like the woman who went mental at me last week at work (18+ only) because I asked her daughter for ID.

Proper meltdown with swearing, shouting, saying things like 'this isn't fking on, she's a fking member, should have gone elsewhere, pisses me off MATE!'

Seriously, people can be really, really stupid.

I even had one woman a few months ago say to me she knows where I live and knows where my daughter goes to school. Just because I asked her daughter for ID.

Gambling establishment. Sometimes I do front of house. Not often though as I'm usually shop floor or calling numbers. smile

Both times I bit my lip and maintained a professional air of calm. On reflection though, I should have just told them to leave. hehe

Gave his address as HMS Nelson. Wonder how long he lasted in the Navy then!
