Woman killed as car crashes going wrong-way on M4

"any motorists using the road with dash cam at the time to please contact Gwent Police on 101, or message Gwent Police on facebook or twitter."
1.5 mins after Jon's video footage above. eek
Must have been literally seconds - my footage is passing the off slip for junction 27, it's only 2 miles back to junction 26 and she was tanking it.

Many thoughts this morning on life and luck; thoughts to the BMW driver who can't have had time to think more than "shiii..."; I was driving home the rest of the way last night thinking there's no chance anyone would survive that impact - glad to be wrong for once.

And a quick thanks to all the emergency service people who have to deal with this sort of stuff on a daily basis.

I have of course got in touch with Gwent Police to give them my little piece of the story (before I came on here this morning!)
Jesus, that's a big one you missed there, and sadly not a nice outcome. I never understand how someone can get on to the wrong side of a carriageway, THEN carry on. I can only guess it involves persons who are used to driving on the right abroad?
My guess is either drink or drugs will be found in her system
Shame that anyone has to lose their life in such an incident, but without trying to sound insensitive, at least it was the innocent driver who survived.

A piece elsewhere states she's from Cwmbran, so it's not a case of a foreigner

I'm very surprised but glad the BMW driver hasn't died, from reading the report doesn't sound life threatening either. I cant begin to imagine what he thought as the car appeared, I'd be surprised if he can get back in a car after this.

My first post from my dashcam. Short, and I hope to God this isn't a sad news story by tomorrow morning (oh, this morning, now...)

Very, very little time to react (and basically zero reaction, I'm not one for swearing out loud much) - I was keeping half an eye on the van I was passing as he was right across his lane... and you just don't imagine oncoming lights are actually oncoming on the motorway. Police "aware and on their way, along with fire and ambulance".
Had similar on a DC a couple of years ago
Your mind sees the lights but tells you theyre on the other side of the armco
until suddenly you realise theyre your side and its all past and done with

Exactly that. You watch the video, you know what's coming and exactly what you're looking for, and think there would have been a second or two or maybe three to react, swerve, brake, whatever, if you'd have been in lane 3; but in reality, a tiny fraction of that.

It might sound harsh but from experience you don’t feel so bad when it is not your fault.

I was in the unfortunate situation of having a totally unavoidable collision with someone last year. It is hard to describe the feeling when you see someone being cut out of a vehicle knowing you are partially responsible as you think what could I have done, what if?

In my case I think guilt turned to anger when I later found out the other person failed a blood test later in the day as she had been drinking for about 8 hours prior to the collision.

Was back in a car later the same day.

1. The links in this thread are highlighted in blue, enabling you to skip to each one without having to read anything inbetween.

2. Discussion on clips isn't allowed but you complaining about said discussion is? Got it. rotate

3. If it really bothers you THAT much, go onto youtube, type "dashcam" in the search bar and then you won't have to read anything about each clip. HTH. smile
1) Just because we can skip, doesn't mean we'd rather not have reams of quotes to skip

2) The "isn't it ironic you are posting to complain about postings" doesn't have any weight. It's lame. You know perfectly well why the likes of me and other keep complaining. We return to this thread to watch interesting clips, scroll through three pages looking for clips to only find they are all requoted when you and Graveworm and others keep quoting each other in the "I'm right" arms race.

3) We'd rather you just stop arguing until you are blue in the face and let this thread return to what it used to be. Clips of bad driving, NOT, one clip of bad driving then 5 pages of arguing the toss over the highway code, rights of way, road markings and the likes.

Seriously - if you can't see this, why don't you just start a new thread "Arguing about bad driving clips" and go live in there with the others. I'm aware I could start a "bad driving clips - please keeps arguments to a minumum" thread but I'm fairly sure you'd all end up in there in a heartbeat.

I doubt it. If it's you and Lemming Train contributing clips it's going to be a very short and dull thread.

There is no 'we', that is just what you want. The irony is you and a few others might actually learn a bit more about how to drive if you read some of the comments.

What is it that we'd learn? Nobody ever agrees who is correct so all we'd learn is that people disagree on the law/highway code/ability of ABS/force of gravity delete as suitable pedantic. It would be great if the debates ever came to a conclusion but they never do, it's just another pointless argument going in circles.

Why not just go to youtube directly then? Why do you need someone on here to serve you up a highlighted link you can find quite easily for yourself at the source?

Had this happen the other day:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4sAoUZTQG8

Before anyone comments, I was hanging out in the outer lane for the roundabout ahead. Luckily, I would say.

And, yes, my dashcam is st. It's a Yi 2.7K. Don't buy one.

If you were hanging in the outer lane for the roundabout ahead, why did you change to the inner lane just as you got to the roundabout?
